  • College degree or equivalent experience (3) years in marine transportation.
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in shipyards and vessel operations.
  • Working knowledge of USCG, ABS Vessel Regulations and ISM Code.
  • Valid TWIC Card / Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to work in both office and outside conditions.
  • Available 24 hours a day, including nights, weekends and holidays via rotating schedule.
  • Must be able to climb ladders for access to cargo/ballast/void tanks. (Certificate for entry will be provided)
  • Must be able to gain access to shipyards and oil terminals. (TWIC Required)
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast pace environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Description

The Port Engineer/Port Captain reports directly to the Manager of Maintenance & Repairs and Vice President Of Safety and Vetting, and works to insure that all vessels are up-kept and maintained to the highest standards in the industry.  

Location: East Coast (New York) & Gulf Coast (Tampa & New Orleans)

Responsibilities include:

  • Assists in planning, administering and coordination of both maintenance and preventative maintenance program for an assigned group of vessels.
  • Review and oversees repair specifications during a voyage repair, overhaul, modification and/or conversion of an assigned group of vessels.
  • Conducts periodic inspections of vessels; and provides written reports on findings and corrective action plans.
  • Acts as a liaison with shipyards, equipment suppliers, classification societies and regulatory bodies.
  • Assures all assigned vessels are operating within the companies operating procedures.
  • Travels to various ports of call to consult with vessel personnel regarding operating procedures, maintenance schedules and safety requirements.
  • Monitors vessel maintenance programs, prepares work bids and solicit bids within company guidelines.
  • Review vessel personnel relieving reports and provide documentation and written comments.
  • Has a strong knowledge or companies Safety Management System
