Arctic-Ready Seismic Workboat Davits

Norway’s Ulstein yard has delivered the next generation seismic research vessel Polarcus Amani to marine geophysical company Polarcus.

The 92 mloa vessel is of the SX134 design and is designed and built for operations in Arctic waters. Vestdavit has supplied two PLR-11000 workboat davits and one PLR-3600 MOB davit for the vessel. Vestdavit is proud to be the sole supplier of workboat davits to Polarcus’ fleet of eight advanced seismic vessels.

Escape corridors and rescue equipment on the vessel are protected against icing during arctic operations. Although 3D seismic acquisition will only take place in ice-free, or possibly bergy water conditions, the Arctic qualities of the vessel enable it to move through ice on the way to and from the survey area, or remain in icy areas waiting for the ice to clear, increasing the operational window of the vessel. Vestdavit’s PLR-11000 davits can lift the two 11 tonne workboats safely in sea states up to four. They are fully winterized and set up for operation by one person from a weather-protected location.
