DemoSATH Floating Wind Platform Installed Offshore

a significant milestone with the successful installation of its 2MW floating wind platform demonstrator in open sea waters. The operation, carried out by the Windstaller Alliance, used their anchor handling vessel, the Normand Sapphire, along with local tugboats, to tow DemoSATH from the construction site in the Port of Bilbao to the BiMEP test site, located 11 miles away.Once at the 85-meter-deep BIMEP site, two miles offshore in the Cantabrian Sea, the hook-up operation connected the six pre-laid mooring lines to the structure’s single-point mooring turret.Works in the BiMEP area are

Corps Building Underwater Sill to Halt Saltwater Intrusion in Mississippi River

sill may need to be built.Currently, the greatest risk associated with the saltwater intrusion is the appearance of unsafe salinity levels at the intakes of municipal drinking water intakes in Plaquemines Parish. Additionally, the U.S. Coast Guard has issued navigation restrictions around the sill construction site from river mile 63.5 to 64.The New Orleans District and U.S. Coast Guard are closely coordinating with the navigation industry to ensure vessel traffic in the river is not significantly impacted. Draft restrictions may be issued as construction of the sill progresses

them the ability to create extraordinary camouflage, enabling them to blend into the background and avoid becoming a meal.Jones and his colleagues in the Sensory Ecology and Bioacoustics Lab at WHOI exposed longfin squid (Doryteuthis pealeii) to pile driving sounds originally recorded near the construction site of the Block Island Wind Farm in Rhode Island. The squid exhibited the same types of natural alarm and defense behaviors when they were exposed to the noises, but it’s what they did next that surprised the researcher team.“The alarm behaviors occurred within the first several noise

Trimble Marine Construction Software for Positioning

for pre-/post-dredge surveys to identify high and low spots, calculate progress volumes and send grid model updates to both the office and the dredge vessel. Supporting a wide range of sensors, it can also be used for simple navigation tasks like tug, workboat or barge positioning at the dredge/construction site. Trimble Marine Construction Software for Positioning supports subscription electronic charts, open-source charts and Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) for improved safety and navigation in congested waterways, use it to accurately and efficiently place Aid to Navigation (ATON) buoys and

4G mast, by pulling a fiber cable from their existing network of subsea fiber cables and then beaming communication service during field construction phase when communication isn’t otherwise available,” says Hjetland. The floating structure will also house solar panels. The specific construction site has yet to be decided – it could be oil and gas or renewables.“It could also be a platform for flying drones from for wind farm blade inspection,” he adds, “or at coastal fish farms. For oil and gas, standalone power and communications can offer charging power and control

Kvaerner to Study Floating Wind Structures

concrete substructures for offshore wind turbines can be designed and constructed for the planned Hywind Tampen project in the North Sea.The objectives of the front-end engineering and design (FEED) assignment are to further mature the design of the concrete substructures, to identify appropriate construction site(s), and to develop a plan for construction, method and cost for production of 11 floating concrete substructures, Kvaerner said.“Another important part of the FEED contract is to establish an improvement agenda that targets cost and schedule drivers with the purpose of establishing the

Explosives Cleared from Baltic Sea Wind Farm Site

Remaining munitions from World War I, World War II and the Cold War have been removed from the site of the future Arkona offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea, allowing installations to begin securely in 2017 as planned.   The construction site, with an area of 39 square kilometers halfway between the island of Rügen and the Danish island of Bornholm, is now completely free of explosive ordnance, E.ON announced.    The operation to clear the site of explosives took four months in all and started with an examination of the seabed.
