Sea Turtle Hormone Levels Affected by Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill -Study

New research is revealing potential impacts on the hormones of sea turtles affected by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The 2010 spill, the largest marine oil spill in history, is estimated to have exposed hundreds of thousands of sea turtles to oil and killed up to 86,500 juvenile Kemp’s ridley turtles, a critically endangered species. In the aftermath of the oil spill, 319 live sea turtles were recovered from the ocean and taken to rehabilitation facilities for medical assessment and treatment. Responders collected blood samples to assess the health of each turtle, and a

, and specifically the Arctic. This panel will explore the risk and impact of such activities.EvergreenMRS 2024 will include a Coast Guard Evergreen event that will also focus on the gray zone. The Evergreen Program is the Coast Guard’s strategic foresight initiative, tasked with looking over the horizon to inform current planning and better prepare the U.S. Coast Guard for an uncertain and unpredictable future. Using scenario-based exercises and workshops involving a diverse group of stakeholders, common strategic needs or key success factors can be identified across multiple plausible scenarios

and engineers to deploy our fleet of research vessels and advanced robots to answer important questions about the health of our ocean,” Johnson said.MBARI president and CEO, Chris Scholin, said, “With a new research vessel joining our fleet soon and a new robotic technology lab on the horizon, we’re thrilled to have Kaya Johnson at the helm of our marine operations. His strong leadership, wealth of knowledge, strategic vision and ability to foster collaborative relationships will be invaluable to MBARI’s work.”MBARI will soon take delivery of its new new oceanographic

Metal Shark Debuts Prowler Autonomous Vessel and Frenzy Micro-USV

Vessel (LRUSV) for the Marine Corps,” said Allard, speaking of the Frenzy micro USV. “There’s a huge need for attritable USVs in a compact form factor, and very few sources. Frenzy will serve this demand, and putting Frenzy onboard Prowler makes perfect sense. Pairing an over-the-horizon capable USV with micro-USVs delivers a one-two punch capability, keeping the key asset safe while allowing the attritable drones to do their job, all while being watched from the sky.”Prowler and Frenzy will make their public debut April 8-10 at Sea-Air-Space 2024 in National Harbor, Md.,

benefits of utilizing hydrogen fuel cells. This method of generating power offers a higher density approach to energy storage over battery-only systems. This innovation will change the current restrictions of manageable-size autonomous platforms, offering the required endurance to be viable for over the horizon projects - and now it's time to commercialize it. I am excited to lead Cellula as we continue to push the boundaries of innovation and make meaningful contributions to the security, exploration and sustainability of our oceans."
