Statoil Denies Patent Infringement, Keeps Drilling in the Barents Sea

Cap-X included essential parts of NeoDrill's CAN technology, developed since 2001, and to which Statoil had access as NeoDrill's minority stakeholder since 2010.   "Statoil disagrees that there has been a patent infringement and this will then now be concluded in Oslo District Court," Morten Eek, a spokesman for Statoil said by email.   Statoil also said the injunction was pending NeoDrill posting 20 million Norwegian crowns ($2.4 million) security.   Kyrre Tangen Andersen, a lawyer representing NeoDrill, confirmed that the court had asked NeoDrill to post the security, and

Oil Spill Halts Loadings from Statoil's Statfjord A Platform

Statoil has stopped all oil loadings from the Statfjord A platform in the North Sea after an oil spill occurred on Sunday, the company said on Monday, with no impact on production from the platform.   "We had a minor leak while preparing to load on Sunday," said Statoil spokesman Morten Eek, who said that some 400 litres of crude had spilled.   "All loadings are stopped, but we don't see a need to stop the production as we have good storage capacity and flexibility to reroute oil from the field via integrated pipeline system."   Sunday's leak is the second

Statoil to Start First Subsea Gas Compressor in September

the seabed, away from ice and storms.   Statoil called the facility, supplied by Norway's Aker Solutions, "a quantum leap" in subsea technology.   "Such technology has never been tested in the world before, so we are quite excited to see the results," Statoil spokesman Morten Eek said.   Along with another similar planned facility, the two will boost pressure at the Midgard and Mikkel reservoirs tied to the Aasgard field, helping increase total production by 306 million barrels of oil equivalent (45.9 billion cubic metres) of gas.   Norway's total gas production

Statoil to Decide on Scottish Floating Wind Farm in September

turbines on the land, floating offshore is seen as the next major growth area for the wind industry.   "We expect to make the final investment decision on the pilot project in Britain in September, and this could be the first floating wind power park in the world," Statoil's spokesman Morten Eek said.   Its Hywind turbine, mounted on a ballasted vertical steel cylinder that floats upright and is anchored to the seabed, has a unique navigation system developed by Statoil to keep it in the position.   "We've seen that the technology is working and is able to withstand

Statoil Halts Aasgard A Production Due to Bad Weather

Norwegian oil and gas firm Statoil shut production at its Aasgard A field in the Norwegian Sea due to bad weather and expects production to resume on Sunday, spokesman Morten Eek said on Thursday. Statoil, which is temporarily moving 310 people from various platforms, will also remove some personnel from the Statfjord and Norne fields but does not expect an impact on production there, Eek added. Aasgard A production is handled by a floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel. (Reporting by Balazs Koranyi)
