New Study Will Examine Hydrate Blockage in Subsea Jumpers
The University of Western Australia (UWA) is leading a joint industry project (JIP), supported by the Industry Technology Facilitator (ITF), to provide industry with a better understanding of the mechanism of hydrate growth and blockages. The 12-month study, entitled ‘Hydrate Deposit Growth in Subsea Jumpers (HyJump)’, currently has the support of industry partners, including Chevron, Total and Woodside, and is welcoming more participants to join the project. To simulate the flow geometry and risk of hydrate blockage in subsea equipment, the project will see the development
Partners Address Pipe-walking Challenges
The Industry Technology Facilitator (ITF) said it is welcoming additional participants to a new joint industry project (JIP) to develop pipeline anchoring and monitoring systems which could mitigate the risk of pipeline walking and cut pipeline anchor installation costs in half. The Anchoring Pipeline Technology (APT) JIP will bring together major global operators and pipeline installation companies to collaborate with ITF and Crondall Energy, an independent oil and gas consultancy, to investigate alternative and less costly solutions and create a roadmap on how to manage and mitigate the
INTECSEA Senior VP Luff Joins ITF Board
The Industry Technology Facilitator (ITF) has appointed Richard Luff to its board as a nonexecutive director. A chartered Civil Engineer, Luff has over 40 years’ experience in the oil and gas sector and currently serves as INTECSEA’s senior vice president for the Europe and Africa region. ITF, a not-for-profit organization focused on the commercial needs of its members, has facilitated the launch of more than 200 projects from early stage concepts through to field trials and commercialization. Luff began his career in 1974 and has since worked in the oil and gas
Wood Group Pioneers Five JIPs
will organise, convene and facilitate face-to-face and virtual forums for knowledge sharing and delivering solutions to subsea integrity and reliability challenges, focusing especially on subsea hardware. This initiative has been delivered with the support of the Industry Technology Facilitator (ITF). Now in phase III, Slug Loading & Response in Pipelines and Risers (SLARP) focuses on developing best practice for analysis of slug loading and response in pipelines, spools and risers and has five participants in this phase.
Viper Subsea JIP Partner Commits to V-LIM
is carrying out the development for the V-IR system at its Research & Development facility in Portishead near Bristol, while the JIP partners are contributing funding and will ensure the products are optimized for field use. The establishment of the JIP has been facilitated by the Industry Technology Facilitator (ITF).
Energy Industry Funds Tropical Cyclone Research
Northern Australia to further improve offshore safety and mitigate costly disruptions to operations. Results from the industry-driven research are expected to enhance tropical cyclone response planning and public weather forecasting services for the wider community. The Industry Technology Facilitator (ITF) has led the collaboration to secure funding for the two-year AU$3.2 million project, which will be carried out by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology. This project builds on the Bureau’s research into tropical cyclone forecast and warning services. Chevron Australia
O&G JIPs Target Seismic Imaging, Cyclone Forecasting
Global oil and gas companies have funded two joint industry projects (JIP) through the Industry Technology Facilitator (ITF), the details of which will be announced at the Technology Showcase conference and exhibition in Aberdeen Wednesday. The Fullwave Game Changer research project has been extended for a further phase with a consortium of 15 oil and gas operator and service companies working in collaboration with Imperial College London. The phase II investment of more than $3.84 million brings the total funding over the last nine years to $11.5 million. Fullwave Gamechanger Phase II aims to
ITF Tackles Subsea Pipeline Operational Challenges
ITF, the global technology facilitator, together with subsea and pipeline engineering and project management company Subsea Engineering Associates (SEA) Pty Ltd. in Perth, Australia, has recently launched a Joint Industry Project (JIP) that will explore and demonstrate a new approach to assessing pipeline span issues on the seabed. Phase I of the JIP is expected to run for six months and cost in the region of $250,000 (AUD) and involve four regional oil and gas operators. Due to an uneven seabed, tidal currents or scouring, some pipelines may develop free spans. A free span on a pipeline is
