Tritech International Ltd, a Moog Inc. Company, welcomed His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent on Wednesday June 22, 2016 to the company’s Ulverston, Cumbria site.

Tritech designs and manufactures high-technology sonars for underwater applications which enable underwater vehicles to perform tasks such as obstacle avoidance and target detection in industries such as oil and gas and defense.

The Duke of Kent received a presentation on Tritech’s developments including the new Gemini real-time imaging sonar and the latest product applications such as a marine detection system, which has been successful in recent trials to prevent shark attacks on Bondi Beach, Australia. The Duke also participated in a tour of the site’s engineering offices and a walk-through of the production floor concluding in a live water demonstration in the onsite test tank. The signing of a commemorative certificate marked the occasion.

Tritech has achieved many honors throughout its 25 years in business, including the Subsea UK award for innovation (2012), the Queen’s Award for Innovation (2001) and the Royal Society of Edinburgh’s Millennium Award. Tritech also welcomed HRH The Princess Royal to the company’s Westhill (Aberdeenshire) site in March 2002.

David Bradley, Managing Director, Tritech, commented, “We were delighted to welcome The Duke of Kent during his visit to Cumbria to view our state-of-the-art facility which was specifically designed to conduct product development, production and testing of our high-technology subsea products. We thank The Duke for his time and recognition of our company in the local Cumbrian area.”

Tritech has a long association with the Ulverston area, initially partnering with System Technologies, founded in 1986, until they became part of Tritech in 2006. Tritech continues to support its local community by hiring young apprentices and providing continued support to STEM Cumbria (a network promoting Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics to young people), as well as other local partnerships and engagements. The Ulverston site complements Tritech’s UK sites in Westhill, Aberdeenshire and Edinburgh and an American site in Katy, Texas.
