Umbilicals and cables specialist, Umbilicals International, part of the Seanamic Group, has invested over $2M in new cable manufacturing lines at its Houston production facility. The two lines will streamline cable production, and marks a significant expansion of the company’s dynamic cable manufacturing capability.

Umbilicals International (UI) designs and manufactures high performance cable, hose and umbilical systems for subsea oil and gas field development, oceanographic and environmental research and naval defense. The new machines are a 56 position dual purpose planetary cabling and armouring line and a 12 position large reel capacity cabling line suitable for production of dynamic cables of 4km and longer.

UI is now well placed to meet the growing demand for longer dynamic cables, believes CEO Colin Zak. “Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV), blow out preventer (MUX) control cable and tow cables of lengths up to 4km are now becoming the norm, we are one of the few companies with the ability to make dynamic armoured cables at these lengths.”

Custom-built umbilicals and cables

In addition to custom-designed or build-to-print umbilicals and cables, UI also offers in-house servicing and repair of various cable assemblies and related systems .

Umbilicals International cables and umbilicals are designed specifically for dynamic, load bearing applications where frequent deployment and recovery of the attached system is required. The critical nature of these systems including life support in the case of manned diving demands the highest level of product engineering and quality assurance.
