EIVA NaviSuite Offers Above-water LIDAR

May 7, 2015

The EIVA NaviSuite software suite for offshore survey and construction operations now offers integration with above-water laser scanning systems from Renishaw.
Laser scanning – or Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) – of surfaces and structures above the waterline can during some types of offshore operations be of vital importance to ensure an efficient operation.

EIVA NaviSuite now allows for integration with the Renishaw Dynascan range of laser scanning systems, as well as Renishaw’s soon-to-be-released dedicated marine laser scanning solution, via a dedicated driver. Throughout the data workflow of the NaviSuite solutions, the laser scanning data are treated as any other sensor data type, acquired via NaviScan, edited in NaviEdit and visualised in NaviModel.
EIVA Software Manager Ole Kristensen., said, “A key feature of our software is that we support all technologies and sensors that may be relevant to our customers’ survey spread and workflow. As we see an increasing use of laser scanners by our customers, enabling integration in all the relevant NaviSuite solutions was an obvious task to undertake,”
During port and harbor surveys, coastal erosion monitoring and scanning of offshore installations, optimal results and decision making require a comprehensive visualization on the state and location of objects not visible to subsea sensors. Moreover, being able to acquire a data set combining above and below waterline data in a single pass will shorten the time span of the operation.
Previously, it was possible to import laser scanning data as XYZ models in NaviModel, but not as an interfaced sensor in the workflow of NaviSuite. By making this possible, users benefit from a more cost-efficient method, more comprehensive data – above and below the waterline, and their existing setups of GPS and motion sensors on board the vessel, thereby increasing the accuracy of the data.
A combined solution consisting of a Renishaw laser scanning system and EIVA NaviSuite will be available for purchase during May.
