Ashtead Technology’s Tim Deacon expects continued demand for Sonardyne 6G throughout 2014 and has added multiple systems to the company’s worldwide rental pool in preparation.

With 2013 drawing to a close, Sonardyne International Ltd. has fulfilled the final deliveries of the year of 6G acoustic positioning technology to leading subsea equipment specialists, Ashtead Technology. In what has been a record-breaking year of investment by the Aberdeen-based company in Sonardyne 6G, with a total spend of $5 million (USD), this latest consignment of equipment has seen GyroCompatt 6s, Ranger 2 and Scout Plus positioning systems and GyroUSBL transceivers all added to Ashtead’s worldwide rental pool.

Sonardyne’s Ranger 2 and Scout USBL positioning systems are designed for a wide variety of underwater tracking applications from navigating an ROV to installing structures. This versatility, combined with their ease of use and reliability, means that they are always in high demand within the offshore rental market to support operations in any water depth.

The GyroUSBL transceivers now available from Ashtead further add to the rental appeal of Ranger 2. The unit is precalibrated so users can be operationally-ready in less than 60 minutes, reducing vessel time and costs whilst also making it easy to move from vessel to vessel.

Tim Sheehan, Commercial Director for Ashtead Technology commented, “Throughout 2013, we’ve seen nonstop global demand for 6G and we expect this to continue unabated into next year. In the last few months alone, we’ve hired out GyroUSBLs for pipelay projects in the Gulf of Mexico, GyroCompatts for pipeline installations in Canada and Compatt transponders with autonomous monitoring and logging capabilities used for subsea structure monitoring in both the North Sea and Australia.”

Barry Cairns, VP Europe and Asia for Sonardyne said, “Ashtead Technology’s continued investment in 6G reinforces its position and reputation as a leading supplier of subsea acoustic positioning technology. 2013 has been a record year for our relationship with Ashtead, who holds one of the largest worldwide rental pools for Sonardyne 6G, and we look forward to building on our relationship in 2014.”
