DeepWater Buoyancy Chosen for Ocean Observatories Initiative
DeepWater Buoyancy has been awarded a major contract to supply flotation to the University of Washington’s Applied Physics Laboratory for the cabled observatory component of the Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI). The OOI, a project funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), is planned as an integrated infrastructure of science-driven platforms and sensor systems to measure physical, chemical, geological and biological properties and processes from the seafloor to the air-sea interface.

HullWiper Enters European Market
Gothenburg is the latest port to be added to the growing GAC EnvironHull network of bases offering HullWiper, its eco-friendly, brush-and-diver-free hull cleaning service. The port on Sweden's west coast is the first in Europe to host the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). This comes after GAC EnvironHull Ltd. launched HullWiper in Dubai in November 2013. It started offering the service at Fujairah, UAE, last month.

Suspected WWII Sea Mine Found off Kiribati
A team of Australian Defense Force (ADF) personnel has headed to the Pacific Island nation of Kiribati to dispose of a suspected World War II sea mine. The object was discovered beneath a sunken vessel that is being salvaged by commercial operators in Betio Lagoon, South Tarawa. Six Royal Australian Navy clearance divers and a support team are flying to the island nation on a Royal Australian Air Force C-130J Hercules aircraft.

Mermaid's Subsea Unit Wins ROV Service Contract
Mermaid Maritime Public Company Limited announced that its subsidiary Mermaid Offshore Services Ltd. (MOS) has been awarded a call off contract for subsea remotely operated vehicle (ROV) services in Thailand serving major upstream oil and gas operators. CMRE Leads Large Glider Experiment
CMRE leads large glider experiment in the Sardinian Sea to enhance Environmental Knowledge and Operational Effectiveness (EKOE) capabilities. The REP14-MED sea trial includes 21 partners from six Nations. From June 6-26, 2014, onboard NRV Alliance and German research vessel Planet, and at research centers ashore, experts from those institutions will be working on the future of ocean monitoring and seabed characterization.

Hydro-Lek Wins Manipulators Orders for Manned Submersibles
Hydro-Lek have delivered four HLK-RHD 4 (4-function) manipulators and four HLK-CRA6 (6-function) manipulators to Canada-based submersible manufacturer, Nuytco Research Ltd, as part of their multiple contracts to deliver eight DeepWorker class manned submersibles to oil and gas contractors and naval groups. The deliverables include Single DeepWorkers, each of which is fitted with 1 HLK-CRA6 and 1 HLK-RHD4 manipulator system and Dual DeepWorkers, each of which is fitted with 2 HLK-CRA6.

NOC Buys Two Ocean Robot Boats
The National Oceanography Center (NOC) is to purchase two oceangoing unmanned surface vehicles designed for long endurance scientific research. The unmanned surface vehicles, one produced by MOST Ltd, of Chichester, and the other by ASV Ltd, based in Portchester were developed as part of a £1million initiative to produce rugged and reliable marine autonomous systems to gather data from the open ocean over periods of several months in support of U.K. marine scientific research.

Italy-based special cable manufacturer Novacavi reported the launch of Aquancable, a wide range of specialist bespoke cables for maritime and underwater technologies. As a privately owned company with almost 40 years of experience in designing and manufacturing fit for purpose cables that 15 years ago decided to focus also on subsea, marine and offshore energy applications, Novacavi said it has begun this year with further expansion into this market.

Statoil: Troll Under Pressure
On June 4, two new compressors were lifted aboard the Troll A platform in the North Sea, Statoil reported. Once the compressors are up and running next year, they will boost recovery from Troll by more than 83 billion standard cubic meters of gas. As gas is produced on the Troll field, pressure in the reservoir drops. Pressure on the platform is lowered to help the gas move up, and compressors are used to keep it moving.
