Teledyne Marine Introduces New Ultra Compact Acoustic Modem

options for greater depths. Teledyne said the UCM boasts increased transmit power resulting in increased range and improved data reliability, as well as a decreased power draw, both of which are critical for autonomous vehicles and extended subsea instrumentation deployments. As with Teledyne’s ATM series modems, the Ultra Compact Modem is compatible with the UTS-9400 Universal Top Side (UTS), and the soon to be launched CE marked UTS-9500 and is fully compatible with the NATO Janus underwater communication interoperability standard

at sea with the SeaExplorer underwater gliderUnderstanding the ocean’s role in the global carbon cycle and its response to a changing environment is of crucial interest. The ocean is indeed known to be the only true net sink for anthropogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) and without this oceanic uptake, atmospheric CO2 would be significantly higher today than what is currently observed. The impact of this ocean acidification can already be perceived and current projections suggest that those changes will persist in the future. Teledyne Benthos Acoustic Modems Meet NATO’s New JANUS Interoperability Standard

From May 21-25, Teledyne Benthos took part in a five-day JANUS Interoperability Fest hosted by the NATO STO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE), based in La Spezia, Italy, at which various vendors tested their JANUS protocol capabilities. The Teledyne Benthos UTS-9400 deck box and ATM-900 Series Modems were tested and proved their ability to provide an interoperable real-time implementation of the JANUS protocol utilizing commercial-off-the-shelf acoustic communication (ACOMMS) hardware.Subsea ACOMMS technology has come a long way over the past two decades and is now commonly used

New Mini LED Flasher for AUVs and Gliders

control via a standard three pin connector.   Anglerfish is currently being used on the Remus 100 and 600 autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV). According to the manufacturer, it was selected because it is low cost, low power, and is easily installed. In addition, unlike potted LED solutions, its 1 ATM housing design allows easy repair and replacement and is not as prone to leakage.   The compact design weighs 30 grams in water, has a power draw of .55 W, and is available in depth ratings of 1,000 or 2,500 meters
