Seismic From Below

II. The first use of the technology by the oil industry was in the late 1990s when OBS units were deployed to record long offset refraction data for improved velocity mapping west of the Shetland Isles. One of the first commercial reflection OBS survey was undertaken in 2003/4 by Seabird Exploration for Pemex over the Canterel/Sihil field offshore Mexico. The node technology used for this survey was developed in Norway, following ground breaking research undertaken by Statoil (recently renamed Equinor) with their SUMIC (SUbsea seisMIC) ocean bottom four component cable system.“For many years the

Mexico's Oil Reform a Boon for Hard-hit Oil Service, Seismic Firms

recession have received a boost from about $800 million of data sales to energy firms considering bidding for Mexican oil and gas blocks.   Mexico will on Wednesday hold its most important auction since a 2013 reform ended the 75-year monopoly on the energy sector held by state-run oil firm Pemex.   The government of President Enrique Pena Nieto hopes the deepwater sale will attract tens of billions of dollars of investment to turnaround a slump in the country's oil output. CGG Completes Perdido Subsalt Survey for Pemex

CGG has completed ahead of schedule an 11,500 sq km wide-azimuth (WAZ) survey on behalf of Pemex in the deepwater Perdido area. This new survey has been acquired perpendicularly to existing WAZ data and the combined Imaging of this first large-scale orthogonal WAZ data set is expected to provide significantly enhanced subsalt imaging results. A fast-track TTI RTM image for the first block of approximately 5,200 sq. km was delivered earlier than planned, helping to guide the client’s drilling operations. This landmark survey also saw the first deployment of Sercel’s QuietSea next-genera
