Planet Ocean Signs Partnering Agreement with ASV
was developed under a UK Government-backed Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) initiated by the National Oceanographic Centre’s requirement for long endurance USVs for environmental research. The initiative was co-funded by the National Environment Research Council (NERC), the Technology Strategy Board (TSB),the Defence, Science and Technology Laboratories (DSTL) as well as ASV internal funding
Launch of New Subsea Research Initiative
within the increasingly complex and competitive technology strategy and associated funding landscape in the UK. Subsea UK director and NSRI Steering Group leader John Mair believes that within the current landscape, which includes the Oil and Gas Innovation Centre and the Oil & Gas Technology Strategy Board, there is a greater need for more meaningful engagement between industry and academia. “NSRI will become the single voice on subsea technology in the country. As the ‘go-to’ advisory body and knowledge centre for subsea technology, it will essentially broker
NOC Confirms ASV C-Enduro Order
supported by Government. C-Enduro was initially developed under an SBRI initiated by NOC’s requirement for a long endurance USV for environmental research. The project was co-funded by the National Environment Research Council (NERC), NOC’s parent body, with the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) and the Defence, Science and Technology Laboratories (DSTL). Designed to be at sea for long durations of up to 90 days, C-Enduro is powered by a combination of wind power, solar power and a lightweight diesel generator
NOC Buys Two Ocean Robot Boats
is that the vehicles will complement, and eventually replace, traditional data-collecting fixed moorings deployed in the open ocean. It really is the way forward for ocean research” continued Geraint West. The scheme was co-funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) and the Defense Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) under the government-backed Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI). The project is supported by the Science Minister David Willlets’ ‘Eight Great Technologies’ initiative and has also received further funding
AutoNaut Launches at Oceanology International
AutoNaut USV on show is built for a contract under the Government-backed Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) to develop vehicles – known generically as Long Endurance Marine Unmanned Surface Vehicles (LEMUSV) - that will carry out sustained marine research over long periods. The Technology Strategy Board and Natural Environment Research Council jointly fund the program with supplementary funding of additional elements from the Defense Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl). AutoNaut represents a new level of capability for very long endurance ocean research and data gathering.
Mega Machines Unmanned Systems take Center Stage
Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) initiated by the National Oceanographic Centre’s (NOC) requirement for long endurance USVs for environmental research. The initiative is co-funded by the National Environment Research Council (NERC), NOC’s parent body, with the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) and the Defense, Science and Technology Laboratories (DSTL). The team behind the development of the LEMUSV, led by ASV, includes Hyperdrive Ltd who investigated motor options and power management systems and Cranfield University who have conducted research into collision avoidance
Saturation Diving Health and Fitness Research Launched
(RGU) in conjunction with Fitnut Ltd. to develop, monitor and evaluate tailored training and nutrition programs for saturation divers to improve their health and fitness. The project has a budget of £127,000 after being awarded a research grant from the Scottish Government and the Technology Strategy Board as well as additional support from Fitnut. This will fund a two-year evidence-based research project involving world leading companies in subsea engineering, diving industry experts, dieticians, physical activity experts, behavioral psychologists and occupational physiotherapists. QinetiQ Software to Support Mojo Vessel
10 knots, allowing a high degree of accessibility and improved productivity during the construction phases of tidal energy farms. It is capable of installing foundations, cables, subsea connectors and turbines in a wide range of conditions. The development of the vessel is being assisted by the Technology Strategy Board and the Mojo lead consortium involving Voith, DNV, Bauer and the University of Exeter. Construction is planned to begin in 2014. Mojo Maritime Ltd. will use the probabilistic damage analysis module, one of a number of new capabilities in the latest version of QinetiQ GRC’s Paramarine
New Marine Energy Generating Device Gets R&D Grant
A revolutionary device for generating marine renewable energy has been awarded a £190,000 development grant by the UK Technology Strategy Board, the total value with ‘in kind’ contributions being £300,000 The Whatever Input to Torsion Transfer (WITT) transmission system is unique and capable of collecting chaotic movement in any direction to turn it into useable power. The Technology Strategy Board award for Vessel Efficiency is the first of its kind and follows successful testing of the device in the Wave Tank at Plymouth University and in Plymouth Sound, UK. The project
