Ocean Scientific International Ltd (OSIL) reported that increasing interest in the potential of subsea resources has driven sales for its bespoke offshore deepwater coring systems, particularly of piston coring systems (including the 42m Giant Piston Corer).
OSIL has developed a range of sediment sampling equipment for seabed exploration, environmental management, surveying, etc. in all sediment types. Cores of up to 42m are achievable (using the Giant Piston Corer), or sample preservation using one of the hydraulically damped multiple corers.
The available corers have a variety of release mechanisms, from a simple over the side drop, to no load releases, to programmable acoustic releases. Coring systems can be manufactured from a variety of materials, including carbon steel or stainless steel, are supplied with liners or removable core tubes and boxes to aid sample removal and can be customized to specific client requirements. The systems are suitable for a variety of applications, including geological studies, marine chemistry, sedimentology, exploration and the study of ocean floor processes.
