Novia, Aboa Mare and KMIFT Enter Into A MoU

Novia University of Applied Sciences and Aboa Mare have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology (KIMFT), which operates under the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Republic of Korea, for collaboration on staff mobility and the sharing of information.

The Memorandum of Understanding promotes the internationalization of the operations in both institutions.

The purpose of the present memorandum is to offer mobility opportunities to staff in the field of maritime training and to share information between the institutions. This way, the institutions will be able to take advantage of each other’s experience and expertise in the maritime field. Aboa Mare has trained ship officers in Turku since 1813.

At present, the Maritime Academy and Training Center has more than 400 students and each year approximately 1,700 people participate in the short courses it offers. The maritime training of Novia University of Applied Sciences, Axxell and Aboa Mare is marketed in Aboa Mare’s name, which is known in Finland and abroad. KIMFT was established in 1965 and to date it has trained more than a million maritime professionals.

Head of Maritime Academy and Training Center Per-Olof Karlsson states, “KIMFT hopes that collaboration with Aboa Mare will improve its position on the international market and offer Korean ship officers better opportunities to work on international merchant fleets.”

President Byoung-Gyu Seo of KIMFT, President Örjan Andersson of Novia University of Applied Sciences and Head of Aboa Mare Maritime Academy and Training Center Per-Olof Karlsson, signed the Memorandum of Understanding.
