International energy consultancy, Xodus Group, will issue a $2.72 million (approx) Front End Engineering Design (FEED) study for BG’s Dolphin field, offshore Trinidad.

The contract, launched this past February, will be completed this summer, involves the construction of an upgraded water system.

Xodus, experienced with project delivery in Trinidad and Tobago, recently signed a global Master Service Agreement with BG. This signing, separate from the Dolphin FEED study, broadens the support provided to Xodus, encompassing all of its featured services.

The company will analyze the technologies needed to address the challenges being faced in dealing with increased volumes of produced water.  Within the next few years, water production is expected to to increase from 100 to 12,000 barrels of water produced per day. The team will also be involved in the procurement of the recommended systems.

The project is being led by teams in Aberdeen and Glasgow. In addition, expert support will be given from Xodus’ produced water treatment specialist Steven Tulloch in Orkney, as well as environmental input from London and Houston.

Neil Smith, Global Lead for Process and Facilities based in Aberdeen, said, “There are two critical elements, firstly getting the right technology that can deal effectively with the produced water challenge - including meeting stringent discharge standards - and secondly, designing the platform modifications to accommodate the new equipment. To this end, we have recently had a small multi-disciplinary team on the Dolphin A platform to carry out survey work. This is an important project for BG and demonstrates the technical benefits that cross-collaboration between our teams can bring.”
