EvoLogics GmbH is a high-tech enterprise with headquarters in Berlin, Germany.

The company launched in 2000 with a strong group of scientists and R&D experts, aimed to develop innovative technologies for maritime and offshore industries through interdisciplinary cooperation between engineering and life sciences.

We design and manufacture wireless underwater communication systems based on bionic concepts, combining state-of-the-art engineering with the best ideas found in nature.

To solve the common problems of transmitting data underwater, the founding team turned to dolphins - the ocean’s “talking nation” - known to use a wide variety of acoustic signals to efficiently communicate in most challenging underwater conditions. The resulting EvoLogics S2C spread-spectrum communication technology allows to deliver data in most challenging conditions for a wide range of subsea applications.

Over the years, EvoLogics S2C spawned a whole ecosystem of products, including several series of underwater acoustic modems, underwater positioning systems (USBL, LBL, SBL), a framework for developers, as well as our novel robotic solutions. Research and innovation are the cornerstones of EvoLogics, and underwater “internet of things” that enables intelligent cooperation between various vehicles and sensors has been the main vector of EvoLogics development strategy.

Products

EvoLogics’ products offer highly reliable, flexible and cost-effective solutions for multiple underwater communication, positioning, navigation and monitoring applications. The team strives for innovation and invests its vast experience into developing, manufacturing and supporting products that deliver an excellent performance and solve the most challenging tasks.

EvoLogics' developments are based on the patented S2C (Sweep Spread Carrier) technology - the most reliable acoustic telemetry available for subsea and offshore applications that provides an independent bidirectional data link along with acoustic positioning, broadcasting and full networking capabilities. The company’s solutions can simultaneously facilitate optimal operation and navigation of subsea robots. They enable retrieving information from various subsea sensors and other subsystems and allow to control complex processes by combining communication with high-accuracy positioning and multiple monitoring options.

S2C systems have been carefully designed for operations in harsh underwater environments and enhanced with special algorithms for signal processing and data management. The company’s extensive experience with sensor integration allows it to provide customers with turn-key solutions ranging from initial deployment up to recovering the equipment.

Documents

• EvoLogics S2C - s2c technology: reliable high-speed data transmissions with up to 31.2 kbit/s

Underwater Acoustic USBL Systems

Precise tracking and reliable communication

[Category: Equipment, Machinery & Materials-Diving Equipment]

A space-, time- and cost-saving solution for multiple subsea applications, the R Series USBL Underwater Acoustic System is an underwater positioning and communication device that combinies the tracking and navigation functionality of a USBL transceiver with all the benefits of an S2C technology full-duplex communication link. Both features complement each other in a fully integrated system. Positioning data is calculated simultaneously with acoustic transmissions, so there is no need for switching between positioning and communication modes.
USBL Positioning and Communication Systems - Product Information Guide
Description
EvoLogics S2CR USBL is a series of combined positioning and communication devices. Offering powerful USBL transceiver functionality with full benefits of an S2C technology communication link, S2CR USBL devices provide accurate USBL tracking and full-duplex digital communication, delivering an excellent all-round performance, ideal for application scenarios that demand space-, energy- and cost-saving solutions. Switching between positioning and communication modes is not necessary: positioning data is calculated simultaneously with acoustic transmissions. Both features complement each other in a fully integrated positioning and communication system that opens new possibilities for a wide range of subsea applications.

Underwater Acoustic Modems

EvoLogics S2C Modems

Lessons learned from dolphins

[Category: Navigation & Communication Systems-Underwater Communications]

EvoLogics underwater acoustic modems provide full-duplex digital communication using the patented S2C (Sweep-Spread Carrier) technology, delivering an excellent performance, resistant to the challenges of a dynamic subsea environment. Self-adaptive algorithms adjust the S2C parameters to maintain the highest bit rate possible in current conditions. The spread-spectrum S2C communication technology stems from bionic concepts and over the years evolved into a whole ecosystem of products. This includes several series of underwater acoustic modems, modular underwater positioning systems (USBL, LBL, SBL), as well as a framework for developers in both networking and hardware design. Every EvoLogics underwater acoustic modem was designed as a reliable tool to solve multiple communication tasks: it implements advanced data delivery algorithms, supports several data management options, is capable of addressing and networking and is easy to control with a comprehensive set of commands and software-configurable settings. Modern applications range from retrieving data from subsea sensors and navigating unmanned underwater vehicles to deploying complex underwater sensor networks for monitoring and exploration.

S2C USBL Buoy

S2C USBL Buoy

Fully integrated positioning solution

[Category: Equipment, Machinery & Materials-Buoys]

The design concept of the system derives from fishing floats that remain highly stable even in rough seas thanks to their long stems and minimal cross-section near the surface. This allows the elongated buoy to remain stable in harsh conditions, and when deployed close to a vessel hull or pier walls, where the waves are taller. The buoyant body of the unit is made of carbon and glass fiber composites, making it lighter, more compact and robust than conventional designs with foam-based floatation collars. The system packs up into a single case and can be easily transported, assembled and deployed by a single operator. The integrated system eliminates the need to use external GNSS receivers for geo-referenced positioning of underwater targets. Dual GNSS antennas provide accurate yaw measurements without being affected by magnetic interferences. The optional RTK increases precision and accuracy. Moreover, as both sensors are part of the same hardware assembly, it is not necessary to calibrate the relative position of the USBL and the GNSS receiver.
