VectorNav Technologies specializes in manufacturing high-performance navigation and inertial sensors using the latest miniature MEMS sensor technology. Since its founding in 2008, VectorNav has been providing customers worldwide access to high quality, fully calibrated inertial sensors with state-of-the-art digital filtering technology. With a strong background in aerospace engineering and experience in the development and testing of spacecraft, launch vehicles, and micro-aerial vehicles, VectorNav brings high performance aerospace filtering and calibration techniques into the world of low-cost industrial grade MEMS sensors, expanding the possibilities of today’s MEMS sensor technology.

VectorNav’s involvement in the maritime industry began with its initial contributions in navigation and motion sensing to a variety of organizations from the world’s leading universities and research institutions to the largest and most prominent marine companies. Since then VectorNav’s expertise has provided users in the industry with solutions ranging from tracking and pointing antenna systems to helping ROVs navigate in deep-water environments to assisting in the development of underwater positioning solutions. VectorNav is relied upon for solutions to the most complex navigation applications facing the industry and their continued involvement with these projects and relationships with their customers has them at the forefront of the newest technologies driving today’s marine industry.

Products

VectorNav’s product line consists of the VN-100 Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS) and VN-200 GPS-aided Inertial Navigation System (GPS/INS). The VN-100 and VN-200 are high performance, miniature MEMS-based systems that provide users with state-of-the-art motion sensing and navigation solutions and the industry’s best SWaP-C (size, weight, power and cost) characteristics.

In production since 2009, the VN-100 combines 3-axis accelerometers, gyros and magnetometers into a miniature surface mount package or Rugged module. It is currently being used by several of the world’s largest ROV manufacturers into their next generation of ROVs and UUVs. Some other applications for the VN-100 include BMT’s highly publicized SHOAL project, in which a robotic fish that navigates and patrols ports and other aquatic areas searches and monitors for pollution as well as by hydroacoustic specialists BioSonics, Inc. in its echo sounder line of technologies.

In addition to the VN-100, VectorNav’s VN-200 builds on the VN-100 by including an onboard GPS receiver and barometric pressure sensor to provide industry leading performance for surface-level navigation and marine antenna stabilization. VectorNav is currently working with a number of customers to improve their existing antenna tracking solutions, which enable shows and boats to maintain satellite datalinks in the harshest conditions and most demanding of requirements.
