Polarcus Buys $11.5 Mln Streamer Package
Polarcus Limited announced the purchase of a complete marine seismic in-sea acquisition system from Dolphin Geophysical AS, for a price of $11.5 million. The Streamer Package comprises 12- x 8,100-meter active streamers and all peripheral in-sea equipment. Polarcus said the purchase provides its planned seismic CAPEX requirements for the next three years, and is within the company's previously guided CAPEX budget for 2016. The purchase is partly financed through a loan of $8 million which also improves the company's cash flow in 2016.

and parts. Today, like the original Sanko Chaser, the ice-class tanker Sanko Sky chases vessels that pull long nine-kilometer, 15-cable streamers. All seven Sanco vessels are built here in Sunnmore, including the 4D-capable Sanco Star (now with OceanGeo) and the Sanco Swift and Sanco Sword with Dolphin Geophysical offshore Australia. Sanco is fresh from the record-setting 125--sq.-km. shoot offshore Myanmar for Shell Myanmar, where the Sanco Sword spread its 12 streamers to a “record” (per-kilometer) day rate and spread of 12 sq. km. Now, with a 50 percent cut in seismic budgets being
Offshore eLearning Sans Internet Access
Oilennium Ltd., a Petrofac Training Services (PTS) company that provides eLearning training services to the oil and gas industry, announced that since Dolphin Geophysical deployed the ConTrainer on its global fleet of seismic vessels, the company has experienced an improvement in its ability to deliver health, safety and technical training to its crews offshore. The ConTrainer, a standalone Learning Management System (LMS) that features training content for the oil and gas industry on a small computer system, offers eLearning modules offshore and in remote locations. Developed by Oilennium, the
Rederij Groen Takes Delivery of 7-Waves
; nets might otherwise damage the costly seismic equipment being trailed. The Astra-G and Aquarius-G were designed from scratch by Maaskant, Groen and Saltwater Engineering together. A design from Vestvaerftet in Denmark was chosen for the new series of three at the request of charterers Dolphin Geophysical. Whereas the 35 metre Danish design resembles the fishing trawler more, the 40-metre Dutch design offers more free deck space. The general deck arrangement is, however, similar to Groen’s first two SRSV’s, which has proven to be efficient.

construction. The vessels have been designed in close cooperation with both RederijGroen and their customer. The Seismic Research Support Vessel (SRSV) is constructed by Maaskant Shipyards Stellendam, part of Damen Shipyards Group, and the first of a series of three identical vessels. Charterer Dolphin Geophysical opted for a 35m design from Vestvaerftet in Denmark. This design is even closer to a fishing vessel compared to the two 40m newbuilds Maaskant delivered to RederijGroen last year. For optimal maneuverability, two Vethazimuth stern drives (ASD) were chosen. They are each driven by an active
Australian Bight TGS Seismic Survey Adds Up to 30,000 sq.km
, scheduled to commence in early January 2014, will cover two of the newly released petroleum exploration blocks in the Great Australian Bight, designated EPP 44 and EPP 45, which are located mostly in the Bight's deep water Ceduna Sub-Basin. The new seismic data will be acquired by the Dolphin Geophysical vessel, M/V Polar Duchess. Data processing will be performed by TGS using its proven Clari-Fi(TM) broadband processing technology. Preliminary data will be available to clients beginning Q4 2014. The survey is supported by industry funding.
Offshore Brazil 3D Seismic Contract a First for TGS
TGS, in partnership with Dolphin Geophysical, say they will commence acquisition of a new 3D multi-client survey, Olho de Boi, covering 5,000 km2 offshore Brazil. The survey is designed to image pre-salt plays in the hydrocarbon rich Campos Basin and is located northeast of the Pão de Açúcar discovery in an area of similar structural and stratigraphic characteristics. The Olho de Boi survey will be TGS' first 3D survey in Brazil," stated Rod Starr, Senior VP Western Hemisphere for TGS. "The Company has conducted considerable geologic review and reprocessi
Unconventional Wisdom
Atle Jacobsen CEO, Dolphin Geophysical Atle Jacobsen the CEO of Dolphin Geophysical, is, in many ways, a bit of a paradox. An experienced, no-nonsense, veteran of the marine seismic surveying industry, he is also disarmingly easy to ‘talk shop’ with, engaging and has an obvious thirst for new ideas and technology. But the core contradiction lies in his approach to business. This is a man that shows no qualms about ripping up the rulebooks and making brave decisions, but at the same time there is a steadfast caution that underpins the very essence of the Dolphin business model.
Dolphin Awarded North Sea 3D Seismic Contract
Dolphin Geophysical has secured a 3D contract award from an undisclosed client for work in the North Sea. The survey will be acquired by the high capacity 3D vessel M/V Polar Duke, commencing in August for the duration of approximately five weeks. "We now have a full backlog for the Summer Season", says Håvard Åsli, Regional Marketing and Sales Manager for North Europe, "with all of our vessels working in the North Sea region and busy into Q4". Norway's Dolphin Group ASA is the parent company of Dolphin Geophysical AS, a global full-range, asset light supplier of
