Decarbonization: Geothermal Study Launched to Repurpose Old North Sea Wells

the repurposing of oil and gas wells using CeraPhi’s technology. The study, supported by the Net Zero Technology Centre in Aberdeen, will cover the initial phase of a staged process to determine how retrofitted wells can reduce the carbon footprint of an operating platform. The study will use EnQuest’s Magnus platform in the UK North Sea as the base case, for which Petrofac is also an operations and maintenance contractor.Petrofac’s topside engineering team will collaborate with CeraPhi’s subsurface engineering team to incorporate CeraPhi’s advanced closed loop technology

Production Vessel En Route to North Sea Kraken Field - EnQuest

The vessel needed to start production at EnQuest's Kraken oil field in the North Sea sailed away from Singapore on Nov. 23, the company said, indicating the oil field's start-up schedule remains on track. The field, one of the largest oil fields currently being developed in the North Sea, is expected to start producing first oil the first half of next year. The floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel is set to arrive in the North Sea in mid-January, EnQuest said. (Reporting by Karolin Schaps)

New Welding Procedure helps Avoid Drydocking

effects of seawater.  Whittaker Engineering’s procedure uses high-powered induction heating coils to maintain a preheat temperature whilst welding water-backed plate, mitigating the heat loss through a ship’s hull into the cold temperature of the sea. It was successfully deployed by EnQuest on the Northern Producer FPU during routine work.   Greig Ritchie, Operations Manager for the Northern Producer, said: “This is a truly noteworthy welding development that has helped EnQuest carry out work in the most efficient way. The procedure enables in-situ modifications and repairs

EnQuest, Cairn Take Additional Interest in Kraken

EnQuest PLC has acquired an additional 10.5 percent interest in the Kraken development for nominal consideration. The acquisition from First Oil PLC brings EnQuest's total interest to 70.5 percent.  EnQuest and Cairn Energy PLC, the other current participant in the Kraken development, are both taking up First Oil's interests pro-rata, in proportion to their holdings prior to the transaction. EnQuest has also waived its right to reclaim approximately $7 million of cash calls paid on behalf of First Oil in January and February 2016.  EnQuest acquires the reserves and resources associated

Kraken Oil Project Gets Custom Subsea Spreaders

Heavy lifting equipment and engineering specialist Modulift announced it has manufactured two custom subsea spreader beams for the subsea construction company currently conducting a large-scale engineering, procurement, installation and construction contract for EnQuest’s Kraken development, one of the largest subsea heavy-oil field projects under development in the U.K. sector of the North Sea. The below-the-hook equipment manufacturer delivered the 303t capacity, 6.8m span spreaders to its customer on site, where the scope of work includes template and manifold installation at three drill

EnQuest Selects Technip for Mega Subsea Contract

Technip was awarded by EnQuest earlier this year a large(1) engineering, procurement, installation and construction (EPCI) contract for the Kraken development located in the North Sea,  400 kilometers North-East of Aberdeen and 130 kilometers East of Shetland, at a water depth of approximately 120 meters. The contract covers various project management engineering and installation works, which include: - fabrication and pipelay of approximately 50km of rigid pipe - 25km of metallurgically clad pipe and 25km of HDPE lined, - installation of 3 umbilicals totaling 14km, - installation

EnQuest Marks 11 Years of Safety Achievements

Independent oil producer EnQuest has achieved a safety milestone after recording a total of 11 years without a lost time incident (LTI) across three of its North Sea producing assets. The Heather drilling team achieved eight years without an LTI, and during this period EnQuest completed its return to drilling (R2D2) project which led to the start-up of drilling on the platform for the first time since 2006. The R2D2 project is part of a redevelopment program that will extend the life of the Heather platform, which has twice faced decommissioning in the past, to around 2030. On EnQuest’s
