SST Wins $15 Mln Order for Navy Seafloor Cable Project
The Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center (EXWC) has awarded a $15 million contract to Sound & Sea Technology, Inc. (SST) to integrate and install an underwater cable system in support of the Seismo-Hydroacoustic Data Acquisition System (SHDAS). Under the contract, which represents SST’s largest task order from the Navy, SST will perform engineering tasks including installation of the system and shore landing. Previous work on this project has included the design and installation of the shore facility; design of the underwate

Lifesaver Energy Platform Installed off Hawaii
After several months of assembly, testing and integration, Sound & Sea Technology, Inc. (SST) successfully installed the Lifesaver Energy Platform (LEP) at the U.S. Navy's Kaneohe Bay Wave Energy Test Site (WETS) in Hawaii, an offshore infrastructure that was established and is managed by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Expeditionary Warfare Center. The Lifesaver Energy Platform is the first Wave Energy Conversion (WEC) device to be deployed at one of the new WETS deep water test berths and supports the Navy's interest in advancing renewable energy for Department of Defense applications.

SST Completes Engineering Project for the US Navy
Sound & Sea Technology Inc. (SST) has recently completed the recovery, upgrade and redeployment of an undersea acoustic array which is part of a system the used by the U.D. Navy for subsea acoustic measurements (Figure 1). The array is moored near The South Tongue of the Ocean Acoustic Facility (STAFAC) on Andros Island, Bahamas (Figure 2) and has a tracking and communication system and seafloor cable system for power and telemetry. The system consists of two vertical high gain measurement system (HGMS) array structures moored in 4,000 feet of water; an underwater tracking and communication

US Navy to Deploy WindSentinel Floating LiDAR
The teams of Sound & Sea Technology Inc, AXYS Technologies Inc, and DNV GL Inc have announced the award of a contract from the U.S. Navy for the validation of an offshore floating LiDAR wind resource assessment system. Sound & Sea Technology (SST) will provide overall management of the program, coordination with the Navy, ocean engineering expertise, environmental planning and installation support. AXYS Technologies Inc. (AXYS) will be supplying their WindSentinel floating LiDAR system. The WindSentinel uses the Vindicator III, the world's only simultaneous pulsed LiDAR with integral

Offshore Buoy Needs Sea Lion Protection
AXYS Technologies Inc. (AXYS) working in conjunction with Sound and Sea Technology (SST) designed the barrier to ensure that seals and sea lions are prevented from climbing onto AXYS' WindSentinel offshore buoy during long term deployments in sea lion habitation areas. It has recently been constructed on the WindSentinel that will be deployed by the United States Navy off the West Coast of California. "The sea lions that inhabit the California coastal waters weigh around 300 Kg on average and our concern when deploying the WindSentinel is to ensure not only the safety of the equipment on deck
