PROFILE

I  am fully STCW qualified as Chief Officer 3000 GT Unlimited Area, and Officer of the watch Unlimited. I have undertaken DP Basic course and I am currently working on a DP vessel.  I am an experienced seafarer (17 years) having spent time as a Royal Naval Engineer, a fire Officer/safety officer on board cruise ships, and teaching at the Royal Naval School for fire fighting and sea survival. I embarked on a full Deck OOW cadetship in Sept 2009. I am a flexible and adaptable employee who is used to working under pressure to achieve set objectives and targets. Experienced in improvising and adapting to changing/challenging situations and objectives. Working to high quality standards, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Chief Officer

I am currently employed as chief officer with Gardline Geosurvey, Operating on survey, research and drilling vessels worldwide, My responsibilities as head of the deck dept are to ensure the vessel is operated safely and is kept in a seaworthy condition, I am responsible to ensure the planned maintenance of all LSA and FFE is carried out and chart and publications are corrected and up to date, I am also in charge of ensuring the vessels stability is calculated and kept within the legal requirements, I am the vessel safety officer and the vessel medical officer and I am responsible for providing training in all aspects to the ship’s crew, I am responsible for all stores and orders that the vessel may require and for taking on fresh water and treatment of such water. I am responsible for ensuring the vessel complies with ISM company procedures as well as all international legal requirements.

This position was additional to my full time position to gain experience within marine surveying, I was carrying out independent Draft Surveys of Bulk cargo vessels in the south of England, Southampton port, ensuring the accuracy of declared cargo by the shipper.

I have been operating onboard a drill ship (DP1) worldwide carrying out navigational watches, acting as JDPO, holding stations and deploying 4 point moorings, Previously during my cadetship I was operating onboard various survey vessels undertaking, vibrocoring, digital streamer, Seabed Grabs, CPT, Close approach operations and drilling operations. My duties include PMS of all FFE and LSA as well as publication updates, I am also responsible for controlling permit to works and holding tool box meetings. I am continuously updating the vessels ISM and carry out risk assessments, I have introduced an emergency response system onboard which has been validated by the company and sent fleet wide this includes a quick response procedure to fire and emergencies onboard.

Fire Training Officer

To give theory and practical firefighting instruction to both merchant seafarers up to advanced level, military personnel and fire & rescue services communicating at all levels. I was in charge for the health & safety of all staff and students within the fire training units whilst ensuring that all firefighting equipment and breathing apparatus are regularly maintained and serviced. To fully support Naval staff in achieving a high quality standard of training to our customers at all times. My role also includes breathing apparatus charging and maintenance and servicing of firefighting equipment, I operated the firefighting training units on a daily basis.

In charge for the training and instructing of all crew (1200) in fire safety and Basic Sea Safety Courses, Evacuation team training, Lifeboat, Life raft prep teams, Lifeboat commanders training, safety at work training, special care team training. Prepare fire drills, weekly familiarization and safety meetings, prepare and maintain monthly training schedules.

Also in charge for the maintenance of portable fire fighting equipment in accordance with the companies Safety and Environmental Management system. Attend maintenance and safety and security meetings weekly as well as crew safety and environmental committee meetings. Carry out fire risk assessments and prepare ships specific fire attack plans. Inspect all hot work areas and tank entries, giving permission for work to commence. Schedule and carry out safety and fire prevention rounds of the vessel. Completed all company on board environmental training and fully STCW 95 qualified including successful completion of Train the Trainer course.

Fire Maintenance Officer (FMO)

Responsible for the care and maintenance of all firefighting equipment on the largest military establishment in Europe.  I reorganized and structured the planned maintenance system of over 20,000 items of first aid firefighting equipment.  I was also heavily involved in the organizing and adjudicating of fire exercises and liaised with the local area fire and rescue services on these matters. Lastly I supplied fire cover for special events.
