My name is Jan Hofman (friends and workmates call me "Dutch").
As a senior engineer, technical trouble-shooter and leader in maintenance planning and execution, I have more than two decades of experience presiding over safe, well-resourced and well-planned preventative maintenance programs and schedules that exceed expectations and get results.
Critical to the success of projects and workflows, has been my ability to build cooperation amongst staff and management, and elevate team proficiencies through on-the-job education and participative technical leadership.

In recent times as Chief/Commissioning Engineer with Toll Marine Logistics based in Darwin, I maintained technical oversight of systems governing marine-diesel propulsion, cooling, lubricating, fuel, water treatment, multi-alternator, hydraulic power, pneumatic, control, alarm and emergency; heat exchangers and diesel engines.

Throughout operational phases, focused on reducing failures and potential for failure by detecting issues prior to the negative impact on operations. ✔ Risk Identification/Risk Control: Leveraged international best practice to introduce risk identification/control principles for plant and equipment. ✔ Resource Allocations: Analysed breakdown frequencies and time expended on repairs to devise methods for rapid resolution and greatest return-on-investment. 80/20 rule provided a sharper focus on orders of priority. ✔ Low-Cost Methods/Operator Watch-keeping: Used simple monitoring tools to conduct regular inspections of all equipment. While tech-tools were used, operators were seen as a front-line of defence against failure. Visual inspections of worn parts provided real data for use in the preventative maintenance plan. ✔ Solved Persistent Faults in process incapacity. Trained engineers and improved the maintenance techniques for two, 5 ton/day membrane type waste-water treatment plants. ✔ Complex Problem Solving: Managed and maintained 18 high-speed propulsion shaft, double-rowed spherical roller bearings. ✔ Analytical Testing Methods/Fault Finding: Introduced tailored methods to suit new technologies.
