Kraken Wins Offshore Wind Energy Competition
Kraken wins award for SeaVision 3D underwater laser imaging system Kraken Robotics Inc. German subsidiary, Kraken Robotik GmbH, was named a winner in the Carbon Trust's Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA) competition. The OWA is a collaborative R&D program funded by nine offshore wind developers and the Scottish Government to reduce the cost of offshore wind energy. Kraken Robotik was one of only four companies selected in the competition. Kraken will receive hands-on mentoring and advice from the nine OWA industry partners, which collectively represent over 75 percent of the European
AXYS Leads the Way for Floating LiDAR
11 more months of validation data to AXYS’ already impressive body of evidence for commercial acceptance. Both validation campaigns achieved over 98 percent data availability through harsh winter storm conditions while meeting or exceeding the accuracy standards established by the Carbon Trust Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA) Roadmap. “DNV GL has carried out numerous independent validations of AXYS’ FLiDAR systems over the past three years, comparing over 20 months of FLiDAR Wind Assessment data against offshore met mast data from FINO1, NAREC and West of Duddon Sands,"
Sensors Installed on New Offshore Wind Turbine Foundation
Structural and Environmental Monitoring (SEM) solution, on to a new Suction Bucket Jacket foundation, which is currently being trialed at the Borkum Riffgrund 1 Offshore Wind Farm in Germany. Deployed in August 2014 by Dong Energy as part of its collaboration with the UK’s Carbon Trust Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA), the new foundation structure has been designed to help cut the costs of electricity from offshore wind farms. The tripod foundation structure has been equipped with 126 different sensors from the turbine tower down to the foundations, below the water line and also
Study Targets Reduced Offshore Wind Costs
Xodus Group, Cathie Associates and UTEC Geomarine have formed an industry leading consortium to deliver a study which will aim to reduce the costs of generating electricity from offshore wind farms in U.K. waters. The Carbon Trust’s Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA), which brings together nine offshore wind developers (DONG Energy, E.ON, Mainstream Renewable Power, RWE Innogy, ScottishPower Renewables, SSE Renewables, Statkraft, Statoil and Vattenfall) in a joint industry project, is working towards reducing the cost of offshore wind by at least 10% by 2015. Technology challenges are identified

delighted that that it was installed exactly as intended. “We are investing heavily in new facilities and equipment to ensure we can continue to drive down costs while enhancing our capacity and the quality of the product,” he said. The Forewind project was supported by the Carbon Trust’s Offshore Wind Accelerator program, which takes the best concepts for offshore wind turbine foundations from design to deployment. "This is great news,” said the Carbon Trust’s Associate Director, Innovation, Phil de Villiers. “Novel foundations being developed
