Total, Chevron Team up in Gulf of Mexico Oil Exploration

In the Gulf of Mexico, Total focuses on the deepwater with a participation in two producing fields, Tahiti with 17 percent, operated by Chevron, and Chinook with 33.33 percent, operated by Petrobras, as well as in the world-class discovery of North Platte with 40 percent, operated by Cobalt International.    As part of the acquisition of Maersk Oil company, Total will also become a 25 percent partner in the Chevron operated Jack field. Total also has a participation in over 160 exploration leases.

Cobalt Makes Biggest Oil Find yet off Angola

U.S. firm Cobalt International Energy has discovered significant quantities of oil offshore Angola, state oil firm Sonangol said, calling the find the biggest so far in the promising pre-salt layer in the Kwanza Basin. Oil drillers hope discoveries under a deep submerged salt crust off Angola known as pre-salt may match the prolific finds beneath similar deposits off Brazil on the other side of the Atlantic in recent years. Analysts say Angola, Africa's No. 2 oil producer, could double its oil reserves, which are currently estimated at just under 13 billion barrels, if pre-salt drilling proves
