NOC's Boaty McBoatface Monitors Marine Environment at North Sea Oil Fields

robot submarine ‘Boaty McBoatface’ on end-of-life oil fields off the coast of the Shetland Islands to help monitor and protect the marine environment in the North Sea and to support industry transition towards its net-zero targets. The underwater robot will be exploring several oil and gas structures, including NW Hutton and Miller, as well as the Braemar Pockmarks Marine Protected Area, and, according to NOC, revolutionizing the way in which marine surveys are undertaken. The Autonomous Techniques for infraStructure Ecological Assessment (AT-SEA) project, led by the NOC will trial the

Chain-climbing Underwater Robot Passes Trials

trials have proved that RIMCAW is fit-for-purpose, as well as commercially viable, thereby paving the way for further field trials in real-world operating conditions.Channa Nageswaran, RIMCAW Project Leader and NDT Team Manager at TWI explained, “Failure of mooring chain systems in offshore oil and gas structures represents a critical threat to the assets themselves, human life and to the environment. As a result, considerable effort goes into ensuring that the integrity of the chains is maintained to high standards, and a key part of this is increasing the precision and reliability of inspection

(BSP).The contract, which runs until 2022, includes supporting BSP with inspection, repair and maintenance services to be carried out on offshore oil and gas structures in Negara Brunei Darussalam's territorial waters.Typically located in water depths of up to 80 meters, these include drilling platforms, production stations, mini-production stations with combined drilling and production functions, gas compression stations, vent jackets, two single buoy

Statoil, Partner Submit PDO for Oseberg Vestflanken 2

(PDO) of the North Sea Oseberg Vestflanken 2 to the authorities today, 18 December 2015. The development will provide in excess of 100 million barrels of oil equivalent. Statoil and its licence partners have decided to develop the Oseberg Vestflanken 2 covering the Alpha, Gamma and Kappa oil and gas structures. They are located around eight kilometres northwest of the Oseberg field centre. The Oseberg Vestflanken development will consist of an unmanned wellhead platform with 10 well slots. The wells will be remote-controlled from the Oseberg field centre. Two existing subsea wells will also

Middle East's Ageing Structures a Challenge - DNV GL

Collaboration is Key to tackling Middle East's ageing structures challenge say DNV GL. The Middle East faces a substantial challenge to ensure hundreds of ageing offshore oil and gas structures operate safely beyond original design life. Constraining operational expenditure (opex) is vital to economically viable operations, according to Anupam Ghosal, newly appointed regional manager for Middle East and India, DNV GL - Oil & Gas. “Of the 700 to 800 fixed platforms and bridges in the region,  we believe more than 70% are older than 25 years and some even exceed 40 years.

Preparing Engineers for Lucrative Ocean Related Careers

;I started out in equal range with my peers, but learned I was better suited for the job than engineers who came out of other programs. All I had to do was understand the scope of the project, whereas counterparts from other schools had to be trained on basic terminology in understanding offshore oil and gas structures and principles. Today as corporate quality manager for Wood Group Mustang Engineering, Musick says the perseverance taught him was a key factor, “You can make a great career and honest living in engineering. Aggies persevere. We’re willing to go the extra mile.” Musick&rsquo
