New Tool Detection Alarm for Drilling and Intervention

Severn Subsea Technologies (SST) has developed Zone 0 rated, tool detection sensor technology to reduce the risk of damage to the riser assembly during drilling and intervention operations, as the tool string is recovered to the surface. The Tool Detection Alarm (TDA) offers a safer method of locating the tool string than relying on visual methods alone. It positively locates the position of the tool and sounds an alarm, alerting the winch operator to take action to prevent the tool string hitting the riser seal head. The portable, battery-powered TDA provides an extra layer of protection minimizing

Severn Telemetry and Control for Wave Power Device

Severn Subsea Technologies, part of the Severn Glocon Group, has developed an integrated telemetry and control system for wave power company Seatricity’s Oceanus 2 wave device, now moored at the Cornish Wave Hub. The SST system will enable researchers to correlate wave movement with power generated, and thus optimize power generating conditions offshore. Seatricity wave energy generation is based on a float tethered to the seabed via a pump. Wave action pumps water at high pressure back to either the shore or a local hub, where a turbine converts the energy to electricity. The Oceanus 2
