Floating Wind Project Gains Funding for Pilot

a total investment of £22 million, and its partners said there is room for new investment partners.Brown continued, “Incremental advances based on yesterday’s technology will never get us to our global deployment goals. The pace of innovation at the project development and turbine manufacturer level demands nothing short of a revolution in the supply chain…and visionary leadership to make it happen. The SENSE PelaStar concept will add immense value to tomorrow’s leading project developers and improve the prospects for U.K. supply chain involvement in the U.K. floating

Siemens Gamesa Firms Belgian Offshore Wind Project

Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) received the order for the 487 MW SeaMade offshore wind power project in Belgium from customer Seamade NV.The wind turbines and services provider said that it includes supply and commissioning of 58 units of the SG 8.0-167 DD offshore wind turbine and a 17-year Service agreement. The project consists of the two combined sites: Seastar, a 252 MW offshore wind power plant with 30 SG 8.0-167 wind turbines and Mermaid, a 235 MW offshore wind power plant with 28 SG 8.0-167 wind turbines.SeaMade NV is a partnership formed of the Otary

installation of five turbines in an array. The site consists of a 1.2 MW array of five turbines, and the special design enables the turbines to generate electricity during ebb and flood, demonstrating how future water defenses also can provide hydroelectric power. As the world’s only turbine manufacturer capable of installing this type of multi-turbine installation, Tocardo can monitor the array in turbulent waters using the ADCPs and see how the turbines interact. The data will back the future upscaling and the commercial rollout of tidal projects across the world. An example of this is

Defining Optimum Operational Speeds for Tidal Turbines

It is crucial for OpenHydro to obtain precise current, wave and turbulence information as they are delivering two of the world’s first grid connected tidal arrays.   Tidal turbine manufacturer OpenHydro Technology Ltd, a DCNS company, have opted for Nortek’s Signature instrumentation to aide in their understanding of the environment in which its 16 meter diameter tidal turbines operate.   Two such turbines have already been deployed on EDF’s Paimpol-Bréhat project in France. Two more turbines are in the final stages of completion and will be deployed in the Bay

at EMEC over the coming months. This deployment will then be followed by a larger, 240kW, platform with SCHOTTEL HYDRO Instream Turbines (SIT 250), the production of which will commence this summer, also in Scotland.  SME’s existing investors have been joined by the German Tidal Turbine Manufacturer SCHOTTEL HYDRO with Scottish Enterprise increasing its investment to provide the funding required to take the development of PLAT-O through the next phase, to prove the commercial viability for community scale arrays.  “We are really excited to be moving forward with our community

GE Interested in German Offshore Wind, Eastern Europe

for us," Carlos Haertel, chief executive for GE Germany & Austria, told Reuters in an interview.   "Onshore wind in eastern Europe and the Balkan countries is currently interesting, especially in Poland and Romania," he said.   GE, the world's third-biggest wind turbine manufacturer by market share after Denmark's Vestas and China's Goldwind, expects to complete a high-profile offshore wind link called DolWin3, which is likely to lead to further ventures.   DolWin3 involves converter stations and connecting cable systems for a platform operated by grid firm TenneT
