Seatronics, 2G Robotics Form Sales Partnership
Seatronics and 2G Robotics announced a global sales and distribution partnership that will see the 2G Robotics line of underwater laser scanners to become available through Seatronics for equipment rentals and sales. "This new, exclusive agreement will contribute significantly to growth in our subsea visualization service capabilities by providing clients with useful data for purposes of integrity management on a global basis,” said Phil Middleton, deputy managing director at Seatronics.
Further Delay on Greater Stella

The Underwater Centre in Tasmania is working with Kuala Lumpur-based Samsian Solution & Services to train and qualify 21 candidates as on- and offshore commercial divers. The three-month Standard Commercial Diving Training Package includes the required Australian Diving Accreditation Scheme (ADAS) Parts 1, 2 and 3 certifications, providing them with the necessary accreditation to work legally as divers.

Canada Installs Radar to Detect Tsunamis
Ocean Networks Canada—an initiative of the University of Victoria—together with ASL Environmental Sciences Inc. of Victoria BC, Northern Radar Inc. of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Helzel Messtechnik GmbH of Germany, announced the installation of a WERA NorthernRadar system that will detect near-field tsunamis. The WERA system was installed at the Tofino Airport so that tsunamis generated off the west coast of Vancouver Island can be measured.

Oceanex Joins Fleet of Trained Whale Watchers
The intermodal transportation firm Oceanex has swelled the ranks of sailors volunteering as whale observers for the Réseau d’observation de mammifères marine (ROMM). The crews of the Oceanex Sanderling, the Oceanex Connaigra and the Oceanex Avalon will be given special training to qualify them to gather whale observation data during their voyages. Véronique Nolet, a biologist and Green Marine program manager, will conduct the onboard training starting tomorrow.
