INS to Help Manned Sub Explore Andrea Doria Wreck

OceanGate, a provider of manned submersible services, and iXBlue, a provider of navigation, positioning and imaging solutions, have partnered to expand the application and use of advanced marine navigation and sonar equipment to explore the world’s deep oceans. As part of the alliance, OceanGate has selected the iXBlue PHINS Inertial Navigation System for use aboard its fleet of Cyclops series manned submersibles.

SeaTrepid Opens SeaTrepid DeepSea, Adds Staff

Kraken Wins WHOI Contract

Kraken Sonar Systems Inc. won a $465,000 contract by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). Kraken has been contracted to deliver a deep-sea rated AquaPix Miniature Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Sonar, a Real Time Embedded SAS Signal Processor and related engineering services. UNOLS Offers Deep-Submergence Training Cruise

A 2016 Deep Submergence Training Cruise on the R/V Atlantis is being proposed to include a 2-day pre-cruise workshop July 26-27, 11 d at sea with telepresence July 28 to August 7, with HOV Alvin (5 science dives) and AUV Sentry, plus a 1 d post-cruise follow-up August 8; sailing Woods Hole, Mass. to Morehead City, N.C. This is the first leadership training cruise with deep-submergence assets, and it will be the first ‘telepresence’-enabled leadership training program.

Expansion Underway at Hydro Group

Aberdeen-based subsea cable and connector specialist Hydro Group, has expanded its premises by investing £2 million in a new 13,700 sq ft bespoke facility, set to open in spring 2016. The company currently occupies a 45,500 sq ft facility at the Aberdeen Energy Park, purchasing the additional 0.63 acres of development land from Buccleuch Property and Moorfield Group (Buccmoor LP) to enable it to expand operations and develop a brand new workshop with mezzanine deck.

Kongsberg Tech Package for Sweden’s New Subs

Rock Installation ROV Delivered to Van Oord

Subsea technology company Seatools said it has delivered a highly automated fall pipe remotely operated vehicle (ROV) on behalf of its client Van Oord.The 450-kW rock installation ROV underwent extensive sea trials and is ready to be deployed for subsea rock installation (SRI) campaigns from Van Oord’s new SRI vessel Bravenes.The ROV positions the fall pipe above the target (e.g., a pipeline) and with high accuracy facilitates rock installation in over 1,000 meters water depth.

JFD Completes First Phase of Open Sea Trials of its DSRV

JFD,  part of James Fisher and Sons plc, completed the first open sea launch, dive and recovery of the deep search and rescue vehicle (DSRV) for the first of two 3rd Generation Submarine Rescue Systems being delivered to the Indian Navy, the company announced.The DSRV completed a full launch deployment, dive and recovery in open sea, replicating the operating conditions of a real submarine rescue operation.

ABB Wins Order for World's Biggest Offshore Wind Farm

Kraken Wins Offshore Wind Energy Competition

Kraken Robotics Inc. German subsidiary, Kraken Robotik GmbH, was named a winner in the Carbon Trust's Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA) competition. NASA May Send Submarine to Titan

NASA has unveiled plans to send a submarine into the depths of the largest ocean of Saturn's biggest moon, Titan in a bid to explore the depths of its largest ocean. The aim to find the chemical composition of the largest ocean of the moon, Kraken Mare and search for signs of life. Jason Hartwig, a NASA cryogenics engineer has disclosed the idea while he was giving a presentation at NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts Symposium in Raleigh, reports inverse.com.
