GE to Equip Hornbeck Vessels with Dynamic Positioning

Fiber-rope Retrofit Extends Subsea Crane Capabilities
MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has launched a fiber-rope retrofit option for its subsea cranes; the modular upgrade replaces the crane's original steel wire rope with synthetic fiber rope, using the same technology as MacGregor’s fiber-rope crane, the FiberTrac 1500, introduced earlier this year. These cranes combine MacGregor's offshore crane technology with the fiber-rope tensioning technology perfected by Parkburn Precision Handling Systems.
OceanScience Adds Autonomy
The Oceanscience Z-Boat 1800 remotely-operated hydrographic survey boat has completed final trials with an on-board autonomous waypoint navigation system, and is ready to survey. The latest GNSS controlled, IMU aided “robo” Z-Boat option is a result of a partnership between The Oceanscience Group (USA), MSubs (UK) and Swathe Services (UK) and adds autonomy to the substantial list of options for the 1.8 m (6 ft.) portable hydrographic survey system.
Japanese Shipbuilders Take Stake in Brazil's ECOVIX
Five Japanese companies – Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi Corporation – have agreed to acquire a stake in ECOVIX -Engevix Construções Oceânicas S.A. (ECOVIX), a leading Brazilian shipbuilder. A Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) between the Japanese consortium and the Brazilian partners has been signed by the parties.

Tiburon Subsea Services Inc. selected GreenSea Systems Inc. to supply its new controlling and operating system for science class ROV Otis. GreenSea Systems develops automation and navigation for unmanned underwater vehicles. The new control, navigation and station-keeping upgrades being added to OTIS will make the vehicle one of the most versatile ROVs of its size available for rent, Tiburon Subsea said. Navy Awards Contract for Columbia Class Submarine Development
The Navy awarded a $5.1 billion contract to General Dynamics Electric Boat for Integrated Product and Process Development (IPPD) of the Columbia Class submarine Sept. 21. The IPPD contract award is for the design, completion, component and technology development and prototyping efforts for the Columbia Class Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarines (SSBNs). This work will also include United Kingdom unique efforts related to the common missile compartment.
