C-Innovation ROVs inks deal with Sonardyne
C-Innovation, an integrated marine services company whose core services and products evolve around ROVs within the oil and gas sector, has placed a major order for SPRINT Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) from Sonardyne International Ltd. SPRINT is an acoustically aided inertial navigation system for subsea vehicles and makes optimal use of acoustic aiding data from acoustic USBL and LBL positioning and other sensors such as Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) and pressure sensors.

Teledyne Gavia AUV to Aid AirAsia Search and Recovery
On Sunday, December 28, 2014, Air Asia flight QZ8501 crashed into the Java Sea with 162 people on board. Search and recovery efforts are currently underway to locate all parts of the aircraft and recover the cockpit voice recorder and digital flight data recorder. On or around December 31, Java Offshore was in coordination with Balai Pengkajian dan Penerapan Teknologi (BPPT) to assist the AirAsia QZ8501 Search and Rescue operation.

Funding for Jee’s Excalibur system
Technologies which harness tidal energy (i.e. tidal energy convertors or TECs) are in the advanced stages of development. Single TECs have been tested in UK waters for some time but only recently has a fully commercial, grid-connected array been installed. Despite the rapid progress the tidal sector is relatively immature and the greatest challenge is to find a cost-effective method to deploy these technologies at a large scale.

Forum Energy Technologies Launches Electric ROV Range
Forum Energy Technologies, Inc. has launched its new electric remotely operated vehicle (EROV) range. Designed and manufactured in-house at Forum’s Kirkbymoorside Yorkshire facility, the XLe Spirit is the company’s first of a new generation of electric ROVs. The vehicle is the smallest in the new range but is powerful enough to perform subsea maintenance and repair work with the use of its optional electric or hydraulic five function manipulator arm.
