The Center for Ocean Ventures and Entrepreneurship (COVE) reports it continues to onboard tenants in 2019.

“We’re pleased to announce RBR, Precise Design and Nova Scotia Boatbuilders Association (NSBA) have moved into COVE,” said Jim Hanlon, CEO of COVE, a collaborative facility for applied innovation in the ocean sector located in Halifax Harbor, in Nova Scotia, Canada.

COVE's mission is to propel the ocean economy by providing high quality marine infrastructure and a collaborative space in which a community of ocean enterprises can start, grow and prosper. Its primary goal is to support ocean technology commercialization and business growth.

RBR
RBR creates instruments to measure the blue planet. From the ocean abyss to the polar ice cap, its sensors track water parameters – temperature, depth, salinity, dissolved gases, pH and many others.

“RBR is one of Canada’s well-established ocean instrumentation companies headquartered in Ottawa. It’s great to have them establish a strong business development presence here on the Atlantic Coast at COVE,” Hanlon said.

RBR Sales Director, Eric Siegel, said, “RBR works to think globally and act locally. The office location at COVE allows RBR to continue to network and collaborate with local commercial, academic and government clients, as well as get convenient exposure and introductions to the global organizations that come to COVE for frequent scientific, industrial and programmatic events. We presently have a staff of three experienced technical sales and business development managers, and we look forward to adding additional highly-qualified members of the team to focus on global sales, research and technical initiatives.”

Precise Design
Precise Design is a full-service mechanical engineering group offering innovative design and in-house manufacturing solutions.

“Precise Design has been a key partner for us as we build COVE, and they are an important part of the existing supply chain for ocean tech companies in the region. We’re glad to have their product design and fabrication capability in-house at COVE allowing tenants to move quickly from product concept to prototypes,” Hanlon said.

“While Precise Design maintains long term customers across many industries ranging from food processing to defense, the ocean sciences sector makes up a significant portion of our customer base,” said Bruce Stover, President of Precise Design. “We are excited to open a third location at COVE that will offer on-site design, CNC and conventional machining services. In addition to our existing locations in Burnside and Moncton this new location will allow us to meet our customer’s needs. We look forward to working together with our fellow tenants to help push their products and ideas through to commercialization.”

NSBA
NSBA members design, build, repair and provide materials and equipment for a diverse range of semi-custom and custom boats, from 8′ to 80′ in length, for commercial and recreational use. All boats are built to Transport Canada or equivalent standards by a skilled workforce.

“NSBA provides a key linkage between the vibrant Nova Scotia boat building industry and the technology capabilities of many of the other COVE tenants. It’s a win-win,” Hanlon said.

"We're excited about the opportunities for collaboration and partnership at COVE. We believe being here will increase the profile of our members including small vessel manufacturers, repairers, servicers, suppliers, designers and surveyors, and we also look forward to learning more about the activities of other COVE tenants," said NSBA Executive Director, Jan Fullerton.
