Master
Duties:
Command of the vessel, Senior manager on the vessel and responsible for representing, enforcing and preserving Company interests, policies and procedures to the crew, clients. The full implementation of the Company’s Safety Management System (SMS), Code of Conduct, Company Policies. Officer in Charge of the Navigation Watch, vessel including safe navigation and piloting of the vessel, the seaworthiness of the vessel, the safety of the crew and persons in addition to crew, protection of the environment, protection of the cargo or property of the charterer, vessel’s industrial mission performance, mobilization and de-mobilization project management, charterer relations, crew resource management, cost control, crew competency assessment, training. Responsible for implementing the safety and environmental protection policies of the Company; motivating the crew in the observation of those policies; issuing appropriate orders and instructions in a clear and simple manner; verifying specified requirements of the SMS, Code of Conduct and Company policies are observed; and periodically reviewing the Safety Management System and reporting its deficiencies to the shore-based management.
Accomplishments:
- One of the Company’s represents for Murphy Oil attending meetings in Houston
- Chosen to be Master of on one of the newly built HOS MAX 320’s
- Delivered HOS Caledonia from shipyard and was in charge vessel set up.
July 2011 to Jan 2012 Cal Dive International Brossard, LA
Master
Duties:
Setting of a four point mooring system by maneuvering vessel into pre-determined anchor drop locations while controlling 2 dual drum winches that control 4 anchors the 2 stern where 9000LB Stockless anchors and the bows where 6600 delta flippers. I was in charge of maneuvering the vessel and setting of anchor during mooring operations ensuring cable and anchors did not snag anything on the subsea floor.
Preliminary anchor plots where done in coordination with the Company Representative, Dive Superintendent and the 3 Party Survey and myself. Above mentioned anchor drop location where in accordance with MMS regulation to stay 500’ feet from pipelines when line pull is parallel and 1000’ perpendicular and 1000’ for both which client sometimes requested.
Other responsibilities included Close quarters maneuvering dockside and offshore, Daily Logs, Fuel and Oil Logs, Requisition, Ordering Stores, Vessels Regulatory Compliance is Maintained, Chart Correction, Drills and Training of the Crew as in accordance with ISM and companies SMS procedures.
December 2007–June 2011 Silvetti Marine Services Lafayette, LA Port Captain
Duties:
- In charge of a 14 month project to retro fit an unfinished OSV’s
- In charge of verifying bills from shipyard, vendors and suppliers
- In charge all work done during retro fit (I.E. welders, electricians, carpenters, painters and electronics installations.)
- In charge of bringing the vessel up to USCG COI standards as it applies to subchapter L as well as ABS Load Line.
Accomplishments:
- Drafted a USCG approved Oil Transfer Procedure
- Drafted a USCG approved New Ship Security Plan
- Drafted a USCG approved Automation Testing Procedure for vessel
August 2007–December 2007 Chet Morrison Contractors Houma, LA
Captain
Duties:
Setting of a four point mooring system by maneuvering vessel into pre-determined anchor drop locations while controlling 2 dual drum Amcon winches that control 4 anchors 2 of which were 10,000LB Stockless on the bow and on the stern where 10,000LB Stockless anchors.
Anchor plots were done in coordination with the dive supervisor and the 3rd party survey and myself. Above mentioned anchor drop location in accordance with MMS regulation to stay 500’ feet from pipelines when line pull is parallel and 100’ perpendicular. Laying mud loops in anchor wire to prevent snagging of subsea structures while setting anchors as well as maneuvering the vessel while keeping all four anchor wires tight so to jump tie in’s & net guards.
Other responsibilities included Close quarters maneuvering dockside and offshore, Daily Logs, Fuel and Oil Logs, Chart Correction, Drills and Training of the Crew in accordance ISM and with companies SMS procedures.
Accomplishments:
- Received the highest scores out of 68 employees on newly implemented Safety Program Exams

Duties:

All Anchors where modified at the crown and flukes with ¾ inch steel plate to increase surface area.
In coordination with the dive supervisor and the 3 party survey plot above mentioned anchor drop location in accordance with MMS regulation to stay 500’ feet from pipelines when line pull is parallel and 1000’ perpendicular. Other responsibilities included Close quarters maneuvering dockside and offshore, Daily Logs, Fuel and Oil Logs, Chart Correction, Drills and Training of the Crew in accordance with SMS procedures.
Accomplishments:
- Selected from a panel of 45 captains for the new 4 point DSV Anchor Vessel
- Did the start up for above mentioned vessel, drafted documents, daily logs, JSEA and operational procedures.
- In charge of annual COI inspections & SIP inspections
- Responsible for bring entire crew up to speed on anchor operations.

All,
Needless to say it has been a very eventful week for everyone in the Houston-Beaumont corridor. I hope everyone is well and/or recovering. I wanted to let everyone know that I am extremely proud of our company’s performance on the KBR Tower project over this past week. The project was initiated this past Saturday afternoon only hours after Hurricane Ike had cleared the area. The project will be deemed “substantially complete” as of midnight tonight.
During the course of this past week, approximately fifteen Envirotest employees worked on the KBR Tower project. Many of the first responders reported in for duty after sustaining damage to their own homes and some of those working tonight still do not have electrical service. In fact, several of the first responders worked 35 to 40 hour shifts without sleep and few breaks. At the end of the extended shifts, the same staff members slept on floors in vacant suites, lobby areas, couches, on top of desks, and other random locations at the building.
Today the feedback from our client including both the local and national representatives has been beyond tremendously positive. I have been asked by our client to extend a sincere thank you to everyone that made this project a major success. I also wanted to send out my own thank you to all of you that participated and/or provided support services to this project. In particular, I wanted to draw special attention to the effort and commitment that went far above and beyond the call of duty exhibited by Steve Mason, Mike Howard, and Sergio Sanchez. These are the guys that made it happen.
General Project Details:
- Both your client’s, as well as your own, corporate headquarters has been knocked offline by a major hurricane.
- The entire region has lost communications and electrical service.
- You are contacted by your client immediately in post-hurricane conditions to provide environmental leadership, management, and technical services to facilitate the reestablishment of critical business operations within 24 hours and all other standard operations within 48 to 72 hours.
- You must identify, locate, direct, and manage a staff of over 200 specialty/abatement contractors from five separate companies within 12 hours of notification.
- You must continuously manage all contractors until the project is complete and normal operations have been restored.
Envirotest’s answer to the clients needs, “not a problem”.
Great job everyone. The even better news is that you finally get to go home tonight and reintroduce yourself to your families!!!
