Ship Engineer and Marine Technician

Objective

To obtain a shipboard engineering department or a rewarding boat yard position where I can put to good use the skills and experience I have acquired as an ABYC-certified Marine Technician and Tall Ship Engineer.

Summary of Qualifications

• A lightning-quick absorber of knowledge who is an adept and tireless troubleshooter.
  

• Achieved “Master Technician” status with the American Boat and Yacht Council in June 2015 after securing four certifications.
  

• Worked with great success as an engineer and deckhand/topman aboard historical square-rigged tall ships with responsibility for monitoring, maintenance and repair of engines, electric motors, pumps, electrical power, heating, ventilation, refrigeration, water, and sanitation systems in port and while underway.

  Maintain and repair engines, electric motors, pumps, winches and other mechanical and electrical equipment. Maintain and repair electrical power, heating, ventilation, refrigeration, water, and sanitation systems. Monitor and test operations of engines and other equipment. Monitor engine, machinery, and equipment indicators when vessels are underway. Perform general marine vessel maintenance and repair work such as repairing leaks, finishing interiors, refueling and waste disposal. Clean engine parts, and keep engine rooms clean. Order and receive engine room's stores and maintain inventories. Perform and participate in emergency drills. Record orders for changes in ship speed and direction, and note gauge readings and test data in engineering logs. Sail and dock a historic-replica tall ship. Assist with sail and rigging repair and maintenance. Plot course and position utilizing radar and GPS. Climb/Work in the rigging up to 80' above the waterline in a seaway. Responsibility for boat-watch and anchor watch duties. Oversee all aspects of safety for and conservation, maintenance, cleaning, loading and firing of four black powder ships' guns ("cannon").

Duties: providing assistance in a variety of job roles for all phases of Tall Ship sailing and touring; sailing and docking a historic-replica tall ship; assisting with sail and rigging repair and maintenance; performing woodworking, painting and sanding; plotting course and position utilizing radar and GPS; climbing/working in the rigging up to 80' above the waterline in a seaway; being responsible for boat-watch and anchor watch duties; overseeing all aspects of safety for and conservation, maintenance, cleaning, loading and firing of four black powder ships' guns ("cannon").
• Lube Technician, Service Specialist at Jiffy Lube

  Perform 20+ oil changes a day on all car and truck models. Assess vehicles including fluids, belts and tires. Train incoming technicians on safety and repair protocols. Perform ancillary services such as fuel filter and battery replacement, radiator and transmission services, differential and transfer case services. Greet customers and recommend courses of action for maintenance and repair of vehicles.
