Posted to Marine Technology TV (by on April 15, 2026

Researchers at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) and USV company SeaTrac have partnered to map and monitor hypoxia regions in the Gulf of Mexico. Having completed Phase One, which served as proof-of-concept, James Thompson, hydrographer at USM, and Hobie Boeschenstein, director of operations and business development at SeaTrac, sat down to discuss Phase Two—what worked, what didn’t work, and where they go from here.

August marks the annual hydrographic e-magazine and the opportunity to highlight some of the global research underway in our world’s oceans. We explore hydrographic data, climate simulations, subsea networks and cybersecurity, camera technology, autonomous operations, sonar and survey solutions, as well as ROVs.
