Seatools to Supply Monitoring System for The Ocean Cleanup

Subsea technology company Seatools said it has won a contract to develop and deliver a remote offshore monitoring system that will be used to gain real-time insight into the performance of the first-ever ocean cleanup system.   The contract was awarded by The Ocean Cleanup, a Dutch nonprofit developing advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans from floating plastic. Aquaterra Names Hawkes Financial Director

Offshore engineering solutions provider Aquaterra Energy has appointed Nick Hawkes as Financial Director based at the company’s headquarters in Norwich.   Hawkes has more than four years’ experience in the oil and gas industry and joins Aquaterra having spent nearly 20 years with Babcock International Group where he latterly held the position as Financial Director for 15 years. Irish Wave Buoy to Be Deployed at US Navy Test Site

Despite some 7,000 miles separating Ireland and Hawaii, the two islands have a lot in common. The islands’ peoples have always looked to their respective oceans for resources, inspiration and opportunity.   Today, Irish company Ocean Energy announced its wave energy convertor OE Buoy will be built by Oregon-based Vigor and deployed at the U.S. Navy’s Wave Energy Test Site on the windward coast of the Hawaiian Island of O’ahu in the fall of 2018. The contract value is $6.5 million out of a total project value of $12 million for this first of a kind grid scale project at the U.S.

Ocean Microstructure Glider Workshop Announced

Rockland Scientific and the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences announced a specialized training program for Rockland turbulence measurement systems that are integrated with ocean gliders.   Ocean Microstructure Glider (OMG) 2018 will be hosted by the Mid-Atlantic Glider Initiative & Collaboration (MAGIC) at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences St. Georges, Bermuda from May 28 to June 1.   Classroom and field training will be optimized for both scientists and technicians and facilitated by instrument specialists from Rockland Scientific.   Fees to attend OMG 2018 are $1

MUM's the Word: New UUV Takes Shape in Germany

Congressmen Farr and Young introduce a bi-partisan Congressional Resolution designating September 22, 2013 through September 28, 2013, as “National Marine Technology Week”. Resolution coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Marine Technology Society and OCEANS 2013 in San Diego.
