Aquaterra Names Hawkes Financial Director

Offshore engineering solutions provider Aquaterra Energy has appointed Nick Hawkes as Financial Director based at the company’s headquarters in Norwich.   Hawkes has more than four years’ experience in the oil and gas industry and joins Aquaterra having spent nearly 20 years with Babcock International Group where he latterly held the position as Financial Director for 15 years. Ocean Discovery XPRIZE Testing Altered

 The deep sea off the southern coast of Puerto Rico was initially chosen as the Round 1 Field Test location for the 19 semifinalist teams competing in the $7 million Ocean Discovery XPRIZE. Researchers Set out to Study the Southern Ocean

Columbia Group, Bluefin is developing Proteus, a large-diameter manned and unmanned vehicle that will function as a test bed. In July 2013, the team received an R&D 100 Award by R&D Magazine for the Proteus design. The company is also building its first prototype of a hybrid ROV called the Hawkes U-4000 ROV. The designs offer scalable, modular solutions including a thin fiber-optic tether and on-board batteries that will reduce the total cost of ownership/operating costs while simultaneously outperforming existing ROV technology. 'National Marine Technology Week' Date Set

Congressmen Farr and Young introduce a bi-partisan Congressional Resolution designating September 22, 2013 through September 28, 2013, as “National Marine Technology Week”. Resolution coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Marine Technology Society and OCEANS 2013 in San Diego. The Marine Technology Society is an international community of ocean engineers, technologists, policy-makers and educators that provides the ocean community with forums for the exchange of information and ideas through its peer-reviewed MTS Journal, conferences, newsletters and Web site (www.mtsociety.org).

Klein Plans 2018 Side Scan Sonar Training

Offshore Renewables Technologies Get a Boost from FORESEA

The FORESEA program has approved six offshore renewable energy technology projects for support, in its third call for applications.   FORESEA is an €11 million ($13 million) project financed by the Interreg North West Europe program which helps to bring offshore renewable energy technologies to market by providing free access to a world-leading network of test centers: the European Marine Energy Center (EMEC) (UK), SEM-REV (France), SmartBay (Ireland) and Dutch Marine Energy Center (Netherlands). New Program Funds Open Sea Testing for Ocean Energy
