NOAA Raises Predicted Number of Tropical Storms to Record High

is similar to that issued Wednesday by the Colorado State University Tropical Meteorology Project, which predicts 12 hurricanes, five of them major, from 24 named storms in the current season.Offshore production in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico accounts for 17% of total U.S. oil output and 5% of total natural gas production, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA). Over 45% of U.S. petroleum refining capacity is located along the Gulf Coast, as well as 51% of total U.S. natural gas processing plant capacity, according to EIA.(Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by Dan Grebler and Marguerita Choy

subsea equipment and developing subsea systems. In 2015, it delivered the world’s first subsea gas compression system for Statoil’s Åsgard field in the Norwegian Sea, about 200 km  off the coast. The system, nearly the size of a football field, revolutionized offshore natural gas production by cutting costs and improving safety with fully-fledged oil and gas production and processing systems on the bottom of the ocean. Large subsea systems are the mainstay of Brazil’s pre-salt development, where Aker Solutions has also been at the forefront. In Brazil, Aker Solutions operates

shut-in procedure, which involves closing the sub-surface safety valves located below the surface of the ocean floor to prevent the release of oil or gas.   From operator reports, BSEE estimates that approximately 17.24 percent of the current oil production and 0.32 percent of the natural gas production in the Gulf of Mexico has been shut-in.

EIA Release Short-Term Energy Outlook

b/d in 2017 and almost 10.0 million b/d in 2018. EIA estimates that crude oil production for April 2017 averaged 9.1 million b/d, which is 0.2 million b/d above the April 2016 level and 0.6 million b/d above the recent monthly average low reached in September 2016.    • U.S. dry natural gas production is forecast to average 74.1 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in 2017, a 1.8 Bcf/d increase from the 2016 level. This increase reverses a 2016 production decline, which was the first annual decline since 2005. Natural gas production in 2018 is forecast to be 3.2 Bcf/d more than the 2017

is a standard procedure conducted by industry for safety and environmental reasons.   From operator reports, it is estimated that approximately 11.48 percent of the current oil production in the Gulf of Mexico has been shut-in. It is also estimated that approximately 5.51 percent of the natural gas production in the Gulf of Mexico has been shut-in. The production percentages are calculated using information submitted by offshore operators in daily reports. Shut-in production information included in these reports is based on the amount of oil and gas the operator expected to produce that day. The

Norwegian Unions Say 755 O&G Workers Could Strike

SAFE said in a statement.   The three labour unions will negotiate on behalf of the oil workers, while Norwegian Oil and Gas (NOG) will represent the companies.   In 2012 a 16-day strike among some of Norway's oil workers cut the country's output of crude by about 13 percent and its natural gas production by about 4 percent. possible offshore operations and, despite claims to the contrary, experience has shown that offshore development in the Atlantic will complement, not detract from, rich tourism and fishing industries. In the Gulf of Mexico the offshore oil and gas industry contributes 20% of our domestic oil and natural gas production, alongside a recreational fishing industry that employs about 150,000 along the entire Gulf Coast and contributes over $7 billion to states and local economies. In addition, Gulf Coast communities host tens of millions of visitors each year and support a $20 billion tourism industry.

XPD8 Seals Condition Monitoring Contract

Aberdeen-headquartered firm provide condition monitoring services to five CNR platforms in the North Sea. Having already provided cover to CNR International’s UKCS assets over the past eight years, this latest contract will take XPD8 to a decade working for the Canadian independent oil and natural gas production company. Gordon Ellis, operations director at XPD8, said, “Over the past 12 months we have secured a great deal of international growth with contracts across West Africa and Asia Pacific. “The downturn facing the oil and gas industry has made it more important than ever

for well design, production systems, blowout prevention and well control equipment.   The Outer Continental Shelf is a critical component of our nation’s energy portfolio, accounting for more than 16 percent of the Nation’s oil production and about five percent of domestic natural gas production – bringing in revenues of over $7.4 billion dollars in 2014. There are more floating deepwater drilling rigs working in the Gulf of Mexico today than prior to the Deepwater Horizon spill, and drilling activity is expected to steadily increase over the coming year.   The public
