JIP Validates DNV GL's Helica Software

Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers) annual International Ocean and Polar Engineering Conference in Rhodos, Greece on 27 June. DNV GL simultaneously launched Helica 2.5, featuring a new module for extreme capacity checks and a new interface to commonly used global analysis software, such as Orcaflex, Riflex and Flexcom.

Jee Evaluates Array Cable Risk in UK

the risks to the array cables and provided guidance on the acceptability of each risk. Cable spans along the seabed and spans at the monopile bases due to scour were a particular area of concern. To address this, Jee provided guidance on the maximum allowable free span length for each cable type using OrcaFlex analysis. Other risks considered were cable exposure, vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) and fishing interaction. To conclude, Jee made recommendations for mitigation and management of the risks and provided their client with suggestions for further study. The client project manager commented: &ldquo

Exploring the Subsea Cable Market

cables.   Mechanical factors are extremely significant in the overall performance of subsea cable designs. Often these present a much higher risk in the reliability and durability of the design than all other constraints.  The application of FEA design and modelling tools such as Comsol and Orcaflex allow simulation and analysis of the design to ensure construction and incorporation of components that will meet the dynamic application requirements. Under Pressure Understanding the static and dynamic forces that will be applied allow the incorporation of features and components such as

Jee Performs Subsea Power Cable Analysis

Renewable Energy commissioned Jee to identify scenarios that could lead to premature failure of the subsea power cables on the Lynn and Inner Dowsing offshore wind project given different environmental conditions and amounts of seabed scour around the base of the wind turbine foundations. Using OrcaFlex software, an analysis tool for subsea risers, pipelines, umbilicals and cables, Jee modeled the cables to assess loads and movements that could potentially cause premature failure. The Jee team then provided information about which cable scenarios are at risk of failure. Centrica will use this informatio

Jee to Host Subsea Installation Analysis Webinar

during the installation of flexible flowlines, subsea power cables and structures. The September webinar will demonstrate the philosophy behind good analysis and how to use pragmatic reasoning to avoid pitfalls.” The webinar will also demonstrate how installation analysis tools such as OrcaFlex can be used to generate safe operating tables for different activities. Davies has specific expertise and in-depth knowledge of installation analysis of subsea power cables, flexible risers, umbilicals and pipelines as a result of working on a wide range of projects, including a number of wind
