RINA Clears Saipem’s Protocol for Subsea Hydrogen Pipeline Materials
Italian classification and marine engineering consultancy RINA has issued two certifications for Saipem’s methodology of qualification of the performances of subsea hydrogen pipelines. One of the challenges of transporting hydrogen through converted or newly constructed pipelines is the risk of weakening materials. In response, Saipem has developed its own protocol to evaluate the performance of the metallic materials and the relative welds to the passage of the hydrogen, which allows it to ascertain the compatibility of the pipelines in both the planning and operational phases.RINA granted Saipem

vessel doing same work scope (ROV and survey).“And I think that is a very conservative estimate when you think ships like conventional manned vessels measure their fuel in metric tonnes, instead of litres,” says Marten. The vessel is Dutch flagged and UTEC was due to receive certification from RINA by the end of the year. It would make it RINA’s first Marine Autonomous Surface Ship certification. This certifies the vessel for manned operations out to 30nm and unmanned operations out to 200 nm, says Marten.“We want manned (certification) because of regulations and the fact they change
Tech File: OATECH Fish-Farming "Superyacht" Earns RINA AIP
A fish-farming superyacht developed by Ocean Ark Tech of Chile (OATECH) and its strategic ally, London-based Ocean Sovereign, is one step closer to delivering fish to market after winning a key approval from marine classification society, RINA.Registro Italiano Navale (RINA) announced the Approval in Principle (AiP) of the new-concept offshore fish-farming system, Ocean Ark. The vessel delivers a new approach to aquaculture and looks set to disrupt by dramatically improving fish health, crew comfort and the industry’s image.A key advantage of the new system is its mobility, able to be deployed

The inspection, test and certification capabilities also extend to cargo-handling material like cranes, hoists, rigging, water bags and slings. InterMoor, an Acteon company, works with certification agencies such as ABS, DNV, BV and RINA, as requested per the client for each project. From the Açu marine base, InterMoor supports a range of customer requirements, including mooring services, equipment storage and maintenance, as well as vessel docking, supply, loading and offloading. “The new testing equipment
D’Appolonia Takes Majority Stake in SeaTech
D’Appolonia, the independent engineering consulting company of RINA Group, headquartered in Italy, announced it has acquired a majority stake in Fano-based SeaTech Srl. According to D’Appolonia, the acquisition aims to strengthen its position in the marine offshore oil and gas sector. SeaTech provides analysis and design services, manages projects for offshore pipelines, subsea systems and structures and met-ocean monitoring systems, and also provides engineering supervision services on site. D’Appolonia CEO, Roberto Carpaneto, said, “Having SeaTech as part of the group
Italdraghe Harvester for Lake Victoria
weed harvester is now on its way to Kenya. Destined to be used to remove the mats of hyacinth and hippo grass that have been steadily taking over the waters of Lake Victoria, the harvester will be based in the city of Kisumu. The harvester, doubly certified by both the Italian Naval Registry (RINA) and Bureau Veritas (BV), was recently inspected in the Italdraghe shipyard by a team of Kenyan government officials who gave the go ahead for its immediate shipment. Once on site in Kisumu, the harvester will be assembled and commissioned by Italdraghe technicians who
Maritime Innovation Award for Subsea Industries
, coral and other fouling organisms can be removed completely by divers, leaving no trace and restoring the coating to its original condition. And because it is non-toxic, it is sensitive to the environment. Ecolock is the result of continuous R&D on offshore hull coatings since the 1990s. RINA Chief Executive Trevor Blakeley says: “The maritime industry today is facing many challenges as it responds to the increasing demands of operators, regulators and society for greater efficiency, safety and the protection of the environment. Meeting these challenges will require innovative
Incat-design DSV Delivered
Sistac Victoria, a purpose-built RINA-classed, DP-2 monohull dive support vessel intended for service in Brazilian offshore waters has been delivered to Sistac Sistemas De Acesso S.A. The vessel was designed by Incat Crowther in collaboration with the vessel’s builder, SeaSafe Barcos Manufacturados S.A. in Angra dos Reis, Brazil. Four Scania DI13 main engines driving Hamilton HM 521 waterjets through ZF 665 gearboxes supplies propulsion power to the vessel. Diver safety and maneuverability were key drivers in the selection of waterjet propulsion, the designer said, adding that station-keeping
