SOI: Amidst Pandemic, Seafloor Mapping Zooms Ahead

. “This expedition has provided us with a unique window into both the geological past and the present-day conditions, allowing scientists and park managers to see and tell the full story of the interconnected environments,” said Dr. Beaman. “This vision is invaluable for science, management and education.”More than 91 hours of high-resolution video surveys were collected with Falkor’s underwater robot, SuBastian, showing no evidence of coral bleaching below 80 meters. “We know that the shallower coral counterparts are currently undergoing their third mass bleaching

.GluBi is a glue-bonded, mechanically lined product, developed by BUTTING, that can be installed by the reel-lay process without using innerpressure or increasing the wall thickness of the corrosion-resistant alloy (CRA) liner, resulting in reduced spooling times and efficient installation.Project management and engineering will start immediately at Subsea 7's offices in Stavanger, Norway. Fabrication of the pipelines will take place at Subsea 7's spoolbase at Vigra, Norway and offshore operations will take place in 2020 and 2021.The Hod production start is planned for the first quarter of

Using High Res 3D Meshes for improved Shape Reconstuction of Marine Survey Data

When using dense, high-precision survey data, the method for management and visualization of the data can have a large impact on the final decision making process. This is an important factor when accurate shape reconstruction is required, as there are significant trade-offs with traditional approaches. For applications where it is critical to know exactly the shape and size of surveyed objects, a high-resolution 3D mesh is likely the best option.Gridded surfaces, even with variable resolution, cannot adequately model complex overlapping or vertical structures. Though we think of grids as 3D objects

chain and our collaboration with ABB has resulted in a power plant solution for Færøysund that supports live fish transport while also minimizing carbon footprint.”Onboard batteries will enable ‘peak shaving’ when the ship is operating at high loads, optimizing the energy management and reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Stored energy will also be critical for fish life support, acting as a reserve, if required, in the event of power outage or blackout. In environmentally sensitive areas, stored energy, supported by clean shore power connected via ABB technology

Autonomous ANTX: Seismic Survey Tech and Port Security

other offshore marine assets, isn’t that dissimilar to managing – and protecting – port facilities. It's an area that ION Geophysical, more known for seismic data acquisition technology, has recently been proving its expertise in, using its Marlin system for marine operations management. Dave Gentle, Vice President of Business Development, spoke about the firm’s involvement in last year’s ANTX (Advanced Naval Technology Exercise) in the US – a project which involved detecting and managing a diverse array of assets, including potential security threats.

A New Role for Service Providers Amidst Energy Upheaval

of the COVID-19 crisis. The value of providers’ transferrable skills and knowledge is brought into sharp new focus. Their knowledge takes on new significance as a vital piece in the energy market’s COVID-19 response puzzle, particularly with respect to its persistent challenges of project management, knowledge bleed and technology.Solving such perennial challenges helps make the overall shared response to the current market conditions more robust.A faster pace of innovationA knee-jerk reaction to the pandemic may be the assumption that a lack of resources will trigger the death of innovation
