Subsea Vision & Photogrammetry Lab Formed

Offshore robotics company FORSSEA ROBOTICS chose GMS as main technical partner to certify its real-time visual positioning technologies. A joint laboratory will be created to develop a common offer covering camera calibration, subsea image treatment and innovative photogrammetry solutions.FORSSEA ROBOTICS decided last year to adapt its Atoll ROV embedded visual docking technology into a stand-alone product. The company was already manufacturing and commercializing underwater cameras, mainly for R&D underwater vision applications. The so-called V-LOC (Visual LOCalization) technology has been designed

Atlantic Canada Profiles: SULIS

Changing the way we see the oceans   From its inception, SULIS has focussed on improving subsea vision. “Both optical quality and field of view are significantly compromised when you put a terrestrial camera lens behind a flat port (window), underwater,” said Adam Gobi (BEng, MSc), founder and CEO of SULIS Aquatic Technologies. “A dome-shaped port helps with field of view, but it is a crude optical element that adds additional optical distortions and aberrations that must be properly considered in the optical design process.”   It is these sorts of optical limitatio

BISSO MARINE Completes GoM Dive Campaign

Full service offshore and subsea infrastructure services contractor BISSO MARINE said it has completed a two-month saturation diving campaign in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. Using its 126.4m x 30.4m construction barge Bisso Subsea Vision, configured with a 12-man ABS Classed 300m saturation system, BISSO MARINE performed a variety of subsea infrastructure services including several subsea abandonments in water depths ranging from 91m to 220m.   Other scopes of work included a Reverse 'J' recovery of several miles of unpiggable 6" pipeline from 122m of water.  The 6" pipeline was

Subsea Vision Adds Another Cougar

Subsea Vision has added a fourth Saab Seaeye Cougar XT to its fleet. The 2,000-meter-rated Cougar is to assist in unexploded ordnance (UXO) disposal.    The ROV is used to locate and identify UXOs, which can include excavating the seabed to see the objects more clearly. The Cougar then lays a charge alongside the UXO, ready for remote detonation from the surface Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Officer. If there is a risk that items nearby could be damaged, the UXO is removed by the ROV for disposal elsewhere. By safely disposing ordnance the Cougar performs a vital role in the pre-construc

Subsea Vision Grows Compact ROV Fleet

Aiming at the global FPSO market, Subsea Vision has added another Saab Seaeye Cougar XT Compact to its ROV fleet. The addition to the fleet follows expanded opportunities coming to the company since joining the James Fisher Group and linking with Fendercare Marine’s diving resources. The compact concept is especially suited for working in strong currents and where the spread of equipment is small enough to need little deck space. Chris Bryant, managing director of Subsea Vision, said the slim profile compact Cougar is ideal for working in constrained spaces around FPSOs and platforms –

New Addition to the Bowtech Lamp Range

Bowtech Products Ltd., a producer of subsea vision systems, announced the arrival of the LED-S-Series lamp, a smaller, 10,000 lumen version of its 20,000 lumen LED-V-Series underwater floodlight. The LED-S-Series lamp has been designed to offer a smaller, lighter and lower lumen output than its LED-V-Series using the same technology. Outputting up to 10,000 lumens with a beam angle of 80 degrees in water (narrower angles are available) the lamp is suitable for illuminating large areas for HD viewing tasks. Manufactured in corrosion resistant hard anodized aluminum with an acrylic window

Bowtech Release New Tooling Camera Range

Bowtech Products Ltd., a global market leader in subsea vision systems,releasesthe6th generation of their color and monochrome tooling cameras with 720 TV lines with improved light sensitivity. As part of Bowtech’s continual product improvement strategy, the monochrome LCC-700 has been superseded by theLCC-720 and the color L3C-650 is superseded by theL3C-720. Bowtech’s LCC and L3C cameras have been on the market for almost 20 years. The first cameras, which were state of the art at the time, had 380 and 350 TV lines respectively. As camera technology has progressed over the years

Subsea Energy Production Beats Topside Method Says ABB

for arctic and environmentally sensitive areas where offsets of up to 500 km have been envisioned. And when these systems need pumps and compressors to increase recovery they will require large amounts of electrical energy to be transferred and controlled from shore. Investing in the subsea vision However, transferring energy over such distances with acceptable losses is in itself a challenge. To solve some of the challenges ABB and Statoil recently entered a joint industrial program (JIP), that entails development of technologies to supply electrical power for subsea pumps and gas compressors
