, including the ongoing development of the Passage Planning Guide series. The MV SEA RANGER will be fully utilized to conduct comprehensive testing and review of these guides across global waterways, including the Lombok and Sunda Straits, and in the creation of new editions, such as an expanded Suez Canal guide.Observing how these publications work in real-world operational conditions will ensure they remain accurate, practical and relevant for mariners worldwide.Having previously served as a research vessel for the Schmidt Oceanographic Research Institute, including expeditions as far south as
MoU Signed for Pan-Arctic Cable System
America and Japan on the shortest possible route. NORDUnet is acting as a catalyst to form a Europe-based alliance to build the cable system and secure 10 % of the capacity of the fiber for European research and education.Currently, all traffic goes either over the US which is a long path or over the Suez Canal which is a politically unstable region, says NORDUnet CEO Valter Nordh. Today, approximately 90% of data communication between Europe and Asia travels via the Red Sea.“Joining forces with European partners in the evolution of PACS will be a significant contribution to realizing NORDUnet&rsquo

US Navy Sends a USV Through the Strait of Hormuz
. Our crews are excited to help lead these efforts with our Navy counterparts,” said Lt. Cmdr. Stephen Hills, Charles Moulthrope’s commanding officer. The 5th Fleet is leading regional efforts to increase vigilance in surrounding waters that include more than 5,000 miles of coastline from the Suez Canal, around the Arabian Peninsula, through the Strait of Hormuz and into the Arabian Gulf. The integration of unmanned platforms and sensors alongside crewed ships from the United States and regional partners enhances this capability

Navy Establishing Unmanned Surface Vessel Fleet for Persistent ISR in Middle East
of unmanned systems and artificial intelligence in fleet operations.According to Vice Adm. Brad Cooper, the fleet commander, unmanned systems and artificial intelligence are helping to accelerate innovation, especially in such a vast area of responsibility (AOR)“It's 5,000 miles from the Suez Canal all the way around the Arabian Peninsula and up to the North Arabian Gulf — and perhaps too large an area to cover with manned vessels. Using emerging technologies, last year we seized on an opportunity to put more eyes out on the water by fielding unmanned systems. In September, we stood
Israel Says It Tracked Down the Ship Linked to Recent Oil Spill
was caused by an oil tanker that was carrying pirated cargo from Iran to Syria last month, Israeli Environmental Protection Minister Gila Gamliel said. The vessel sailed through the Gulf and the Red Sea without radio contact, switching its tracking devices back on before passing through Egypt's Suez Canal, Gamliel told reporters. It turned the devices off again before entering Israeli waters in the eastern Mediterranean, and dropped oil into the sea between Feb. 1-2, she said, naming the vessel as the Panama-flagged oil tanker Emerald."Iran is (conducting) terrorism by damaging the environment
Researchers Study Hull Biofouling and Spread of Invasive Species
University’s School of Zoology, half the ships passing along the Mediterranean coast of Israel are carrying invasive ascidians, presenting a global threat to ecosystems around the world. TAU’s Dr. Noa Shenkar, who led the research, said, “These organisms are passing through the Suez Canal, latching onto ropes and the bottom of the ship. They're filter feeders, so they cover and clog every surface they latch onto, creating a lot of drag for the ship and damaging marine biodiversity in their new environments. They're a major threat to our coasts and are very costly to shipowners."
