Svitzer, Wallenius Wilhelmsen Sign EcoTow Agreement to Drive Decarbonization

Svitzer has signed a global EcoTow agreement with the Wallenius Wilhelmsen group. The agreement marks a step in Svitzer’s decarbonization journey and supports Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s ambition to reduce Scope 3 emissions across Svitzer’s global operations.The agreement covers tug jobs across key markets such as Australia, the UK, and Scandinavia. By applying the mass balance principle, Svitzer can use biofuels across its network and bank the resulting CO₂ savings in its emissions ledger. Svitzer Names Van Dijk CCO Americas

Svitzer has appointed Arjen Van Dijk as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) for the Americas region.With more than 15 years in global shipping and transportation, the 43 year old Dutch maritime professional brings to Svitzer extensive knowledge and insights. He speaks Spanish and has lived and worked in both Argentina and Colombia and has worked in various other Latin American countries. Arjen Van Dijk is joining the Management Team in Svitzer’s regional head office in Miami.

Troll Solution Wreck Removal Completed

Svitzer Acquires Two Damen ASD Tugs

  Svitzer has taken delivery of two Damen ASD Tugs 3212 in the UK. The initial contract was signed at the Tugnology 2015 event, which took place in London in May. The vessels were built for stock at Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam and arrived in Rotterdam in late October as part of a 22-vessel consignment on board BigLift Shipping’s heavy-lift vessel,Happy Star. Named the Svitzer Deben and Svitzer Kent respectively, the 32-metre vessels deliver 80 tonnes of bollard pull and are equipped with 2.8 metre controllable pitch propellers (CPP) and special render recovery winches. Oil to be Removed from Sunken Ship off Canary Islands

Ardent, the recent merger of Titan and Svitzer Salvage and Ardentia Marine, a salvage and diving company based in Spain have, been awarded the contract to remove oil from the sunken fishing trawler Oleg Naydenov off the coast of Gran Canarias, Spain.   On April 11, the vessel sustained a fire that quickly got out of control. All crew were able to abandon the vessel safely but due to the intensity of the fire, firefighting experts were unable to gain access to board the vessel and she sank approximately 15 nautical miles southwest of Gran Canarias.   Three leading companies have teamed up to bring the first ever Reverse Stern Drive (RSD) Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) tug to the market. Damen Shipyards of the Netherlands, German engine manufacturer MTU Friedrichshafen, a subsidiary of Rolls-Royce Power Systems, and Denmark’s SVITZER have embarked on the pioneering project with the official launch of the new eco-friendly tug planned for 2016.
