Countdown to Oceans2013 San Diego

Oceans2013 Technical and Scientific Program now on-line: The Oceans2013 Technical Program is now up on the website.  You can browse the technical tracks and find the papers and authors that might be of interest.
 

Oceans2013 Opening Plenary speakers announced: Oceans2013 San Diego will open Tuesday morning, September 24, with four dynamic and complementary speakers:  Explorer and environmentalist Dr. Sylvia Earle, UCSD Chancellor Dr. Pradeep Khosla, Deputy Assistant Administrator for NOAA Research Craig N. McLean, and Chevron Energy Technology Company, Deep-Star director Dr. Greg Kusinski.  The Plenary session traditionally opens the technical and scientific program.



Oceans Honorary Co-Chairs announced:  Honorary Co-Chair, Academia, Dr. Catherine Constable, the Acting Director of Oceans2013’s Academic Host Scripps Institution of Oceanography/UCSD’s is joined by Honorary Co-Chair, Defense, VADM (ret) Peter M. Hekman, Jr., former commander Naval Sea Systems Command.



Tutorials:  Thirteen super tutorials lead by the top practitioners in their fields will be held Monday, September 23.



Underwater Film Festival: The underwater film festival had over 70 films entered from filmmakers from all over the world.  The films subjects range from whales to nudibranchs, while the filming locations range from the Arctic to Antarctica.  The San Diego Underwater Photographic Society (SDUPS) Board of Directors is working on selecting the best 30 or so films, providing completely different programs each of the two nights of the underwater film festival.  Each film is 5 minutes or less and each evening will have at least 15 films, guaranteeing a very fast paced, interesting, and “kick off’ event for the Oceans 13 Conference.  Check out the trailer by clicking here. Co-Participating Societies: Ten additional scientific and engineering societies join Oceans2013 making it the largest collaboration of societies since.
 


Coinciding events: Several independent events will be held in San Diego before or after Oceans2013, including:

Military personnel in uniform who register for the free exhibits will also be given admittance to all technical programs.
