Fugro Awarded Survey Work Papua New Guinea
Fugro has been awarded a total of six hydrographic survey contracts by the National Maritime Safety Authority (NMSA) of Papua New Guinea to help contribute capacity development in the country, which has over 5,000 kilometers of coastline. The surveys will be conducted utilizing a combination of Fugro’s Airborne LiDAR Bathymetry (ALB) and multibeam echo sounder (MBES) sensors and a seamless dataset will be delivered to the NMSA.
WHOI Selects Ranger 2 USBL for RV Neil Armstrong
Houston-based subsea technology company, Sonardyne Inc., has announced that its deep water acoustic positioning system, Ranger 2 USBL, has been selected for the U.S Navy’s new oceanographic research vessel, R/V Neil Armstrong. The ship is operated by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) on behalf of the Navy and replaces the recently retired R/V Knorr vessel which had been in operation since 1970.

Summer Shark Research Heats Up at WHOI
WHOI scientists will collaborate with the non-profit shark research organization OCEARCH on a month-long expedition starting out on 31, July 2013, to tag white sharks and collect valuable blood and tissue samples off the coast of Cape Cod. Schlumberger to Acquire Coiled Tubing Drilling Units
Schlumberger has announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire the coiled tubing drilling and coiled tubing units from Xtreme Drilling and Coil Services Corp. (TSX:XDC), a Calgary-based provider of international land drilling and coiled tubing drilling services. Xtreme currently owns a fleet of 11 coiled tubing units located in Saudi Arabia and the United States. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close in the third quarter.

True Heading, manufacturer of Automatic Identification System (AIS) solutions, GPS compasses and app navigation, has supplied an AIS Aid to Navigation (ATON) beacon to the Port of Stockholm, Sweden. TRDI to Host Underwater Navigation Training in Houston
Teledyne RD Instruments (TRDI) – manufacturer of Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs); Conductivity, Temperature and Depth (CTD); and Doppler Velocity Logs (DVLs) for offshore, academic and defense applications – announced it will host a two-day training seminar focused on their Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) technology in Houston, October 21-22, 2014. DVLs are used extensively onboard underwater platforms and surface vessels to provide precision navigation capability.
FPSO Operation Increased 84% in Past Decade
IMA/EMA recently completed an in-depth analysis of the floating production sector. Highlighted below are some key findings in Floating Production Systems: assessment of the outlook for FPSOs, Semis, TLPs, Spars, FLNGs, FSRUs and FSOs. FPSOs account for 61% of the existing systems. The balance is comprised of production semis, tension leg platforms, production spars, production barges and floating regasification/storage units.
