ION Geophysical Reprocesses 62,000 km of Colombia's Vintage Offshore Seismic Data

Offshore seismic data company ION Geophysical has completed reprocessing of the prestack time and depth imaging of over 62,000 km of legacy data acquired from the National Hydrocarbon Agency of Colombia (ANH) for its Colombia Caribe 2D reprocessing program. The Caribe Colombia Reprocessing project is a 2D multi-client program designed to improve understanding of the area and tie all main offshore wells.According to ION Geophysical, the multi-client reprocessing provides a consistent parameterization of 18 surveys with vintages ranging from 1982 through 2014, and, combined with its PanamaSPAN and

Brunei Shell Petroleum Selects ION Geophysical's Marine Logistics Software

Offshore seismic services and technology company ION Geophysical has won a five-year contract with Brunei Shell Petroleum Co. (BSP), a joint venture between the Government of Brunei and Shell, for a digital solution to manage marine logistics. ION said that the solution would be delivered utilizing the Marlin marine optimization software suite and will include vessel monitoring, berth management, and visual reporting tools for material supply workflows. "The solution will digitize a number of manual processes and will also interface with existing tools, enhancing BSP’s ability to

ION Geophysical, PGS in 2D Data Team-Up

Offshore seismic data companies ION Geophysical and PGS have agreed to collaborate globally on 2D exploration data.  "Both companies have modern, high-quality multi-client data libraries that together cover all the significant hydrocarbon provinces around the world. The new joint data library will comprise nearly a million kilometers of uniquely complementary data, including many areas of genuine broadband seismic, that have substantial opportunity for integration and reimaging," the companies said. The companies said that ION's latest imaging technology and PGS' broadband 2D

in-common. However, it turns out that managing complex marine seismic operations, where 10km-long seismic streamers have to be deployed harmoniously alongside other offshore marine assets, isn’t that dissimilar to managing – and protecting – port facilities. It's an area that ION Geophysical, more known for seismic data acquisition technology, has recently been proving its expertise in, using its Marlin system for marine operations management. Dave Gentle, Vice President of Business Development, spoke about the firm’s involvement in last year’s ANTX (Advanced Naval Technology

ION, WesternGeco Settle Decade-Long Seismic Tech Dispute

Marine seismic data company ION Geophysical has said it has settled a decade-long patent litigation with WesternGeco. The litigation was related to ION's use of WesternGeco's patented technology used for lateral streamer positioning.  The companies signed an agreement where WesternGeco will permanently dismiss the pending lawsuit, grant ION a license to the patents and lift the injunction preventing ION from manufacturing DigiFIN tech, based on WesternGeco patent, in the United States, ION Geo said.DigiFIN technology helps in steering and positioning streamers while they are in the water.

Schlumberger Wins in US Supreme Court on Patent Damages

use of their patented technology abroad in a victory for Schlumberger NV, the world's largest oilfield services provider. The 7-2 decision overturned a lower court's ruling that had enforced limits on applying U.S. patent law overseas and reduced by $93.4 million the damages sum that rival ION Geophysical Corp had to pay for infringing Schlumberger technology that helps find oil and gas beneath the ocean floor. Both companies are based in Houston. The decision expands the ability of patent owners to recover foreign-based damages, increasing the threat posed by certain infringement lawsuits in

ION, Greensea Ink Joint Marketing Agreement

ION Geophysical Corporation and Greensea Systems, Inc. will work together to provide underwater navigation solutions for manned and unmanned underwater vehicle operators under a new joint marketing agreement. The partnership will aim to accelerate the adoption of ION’s technologies into larger, less cyclic adjacent markets offshore and in the military while providing Greensea with options to integrate ION sensor technology into a growing number of navigation systems. Greensea and ION have already collaborated to integrate ION’s optical magnetic heading sensor into Greensea’s INSpect

Schlumberger Fights to Boost Patent Damages at US Supreme Court

easier for companies to recoup profits lost due to the unauthorized use of their patented technology overseas in a dispute involving Schlumberger NV, the world's largest oilfield services provider. The nine justices heard about an hour of arguments that will resolve the amount of money that rival ION Geophysical Corp must pay for infringing Schlumberger technology that helps search for oil and gas beneath the ocean floor. Both companies are based in Houston. Some justices, including conservative Justice Neil Gorsuch and liberal Justice Stephen Breyer, expressed concerns about applying U.S. patent laws
