Floating Production – A Growing Segment in Transition

in South Korea and Europe. Finally, we are seeing a trend of certain key players in the floating production segment to leverage their expertise for executing challenging and large projects in deep water into the floating wind space, including Petrobras, Shell, TotalEnergies, Equinor, CNOOC, SBM Offshore, MODEC and BW Offshore.Competing for the Same Supply ChainsThe growth in activity in both the floating production and the floating wind segments will drive increased demand for engineering services, shipyard and port capacity, mooring system supply, dynamic subsea cables and specialist installation vessels

Miko Marine Delivers Magnetic Blanking Set for Bacalhau FPSO

Brazilian offshore sector from its fabrication plant in Haugesund, Norway. However, the set is not going to Brazil, but to the DSIC yard in Dalian, China, where it will then be installed aboard a new Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel being completed by Japanese FPSO specialist MODEC. Upon the completion of the construction, the new FPSO will be transferred to Equinor's recently sanctioned Bacalhau development offshore Brazil.According to Miko Marine, the new blanking set consists of four cofferdams that can be used for covering sea chests and three inlet pipe covers

MODEC Sets Out to Reduce Cost of Floating Wind Turbines

Japanese FPSO specialist MODEC says it is working with partners to develop a solution that will reduce the overall cost of floating offshore wind turbines. For some time, floating offshore wind has been something of a niche, but now full-scale demonstrators are in the works, and bigger players – including companies such as MODEC that have traditionally focused on oil and gas – are taking note. Evolving floater technologies will enable wind farms to move from coastal installations to more windy areas further offshore where they can obtain higher energy efficiency.Leveraging its experience
