PSW Technology Nets 'Sizable' Deepwater BOP Stack Services Contract

Norwegian offshore services and equipment provider PSW Technology has secured a "sizable" contract for deep-water BOP stack services.Subsea blowout preventer (BOP) is a system used in offshore oil drilling to prevent well blowouts.Under the deal announced Tuesday, PSW Technology, a subsidiary of Oslo-listed Scana, will provide services for the modification, classification, and testing of a deepwater BOP stack, for an unnamed "international subsea customer."The work under the contract will start in the first quarter of 2023. Scana said the contract was a sizable one

'Catastrophic' California Offshore Oil Spill Kills Fish, Damages Wetlands

was a "call to action that we need to stop drilling off our precious California coast."Oil production off California's coast has declined sharply since its peak in the 1990s, in part due to the state's strict environmental rules. Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom said he wants to end oil drilling in the state by 2045.Offshore drilling was restricted in the state after a devastating 1969 oil spill off the coast of Santa Barbara that dumped 80,000 barrels into the ocean. More recently another spill off Santa Barbara in 2015 sent as much as 2,400 barrels onto the shore and into the Pacific

Vontobel and Candriam back Belize's barrier reef 'superbond' buyback

$526.5 million bond with help from U.S.-headquartered, non-profit organization The Nature Conservancy.A key part of the deal is that the government will fund a $23.4 million marine conservation trust that would help protect the world's second-largest barrier reef, damaged in the past by offshore oil drilling and overdevelopment. The buyback offer needs the approval of 75% of the bond's holders. A group holding roughly 50% of the debt, including GMO, ABRDN and Greylock Capital and an unknown number of unnamed funds, has already given its blessing to the plan. read more And other major holders confirmed

Unique Floating Wind Turbine Set for Middle East Debut

, the daily water treatment capacity of what SYNLIFT says is an eco-water-utility is 15,000, 30,000 or 50,000 m3 per day. The largest FWD module can provide drinking water for up to half a million people, SYNLIFT says.Applying the semi-submersible technology – originally developed for deep-sea oil drilling and today increasingly also used for offshore wind energy – locations with greater water depths can also be activated cost-effectively for FWD with a minimized impact of seawater desalination on the maritime and terrestrial environment, the company explains.Credit: SIPThe floating utility

Alaskan shoreline and killed much of its native wildlife. The Valdez spill prompted the passage of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, which increased penalties for companies responsible for oils and required oil tankers operating in United States waters to have a double hull. In 2010, an explosion of the oil drilling rig, the Deepwater Horizon, would surpass the volume of oil spilled by the Valdez, releasing over 200 million gallons of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico over a period of 87 days, affecting some 16,000 miles of coastline in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. For any marine-based

Government Shutdown: Atlantic Seismic Permitting Blocked by Judge

A federal court judge on Friday ruled that the federal government cannot process seismic testing permits for offshore oil drilling during the ongoing government shutdown, dealing a blow Trump administration's energy agenda.Judge Richard Gergel of the U.S. District Court in South Carolina issued the decision in response to a motion filed by a range of conservation and business groups and coastal cities opposed to the adminstration's efforts to expand U.S. offshore drilling. The Justice Department had sought a delay in the court proceedings arguing that it did not have the resources it needed to

Nine US States Seek to Stop Atlantic Seismic Testing

Thursday to stop future seismic tests for oil and gas deposits off the East Coast, joining a lawsuit from environmentalists concerned the tests harm whales and dolphins.Seismic testing uses air gun blasts to map out what resources lie beneath the ocean. Conservationists say the testing, a precursor to oil drilling, can disorient marine animals that rely on fine-tuned hearing to navigate and find food. The tests lead to beachings of an endangered species, the North Atlantic right whale, they say.New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood said the tests would harm marine species, jeopardize coastal ecosystems

US Government Sued Over Atlantic Seismic Testing

The permits allow marine wildlife to be harassed but not killed.Conservationists say the testing, a precursor to oil drilling, can cause disorientation that leads to beachings of an endangered species, the North Atlantic right whale.U.S. President Donald Trump is pursuing increased petroleum drilling as part of an "energy dominance" policy. Peru Will Likely Create Pacific Ocean Reserve in 2019

grounds for humpback whales and other marine species, the environment minister said on Monday. The reserve would span more than 400 square miles (1,040 square km) and overlap with four offshore oil blocks, according to a government document on the proposal.Environment Minister Fabiola Munoz said oil drilling and fishing would still be allowed in the protected area, but that extra care would be taken to ensure they do not threaten marine ecosystems, with resources allocated for government oversight."The goal of creating this reserve isn't to ban economic activity. It's to create the conditions
